I like the dark with the floor, but both are lovely. It's such a person decision how bright or dark you would like your kitchen to feel.

LIght cabs dark island perfect. bring slightly darker in on ctops or backsplash to keep from having a washed out look

I prefer the light floor. Just remember that lighting makes a big difference in how something looks. Most showrooms have fluorescent lighting. If possible see if you can take a sample and see it under the lighting conditions you will have at home. Which ever choice you make I think you will have a pretty home.

Hello! I am leaning towards the darker cabinet with the lighter floors. You want to create contrast while also being sure everything coordinates. The lighter floor with lighter cabinet looks too "beachy", while the dark floors seem too rustic and distressed. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Mid century modern can go either way (gray or white cabs) but it ALMOST always has a wood (read: brown) mixed in. If you want the light gray flooring, a wood look panel will work better. IF you want a "wood look" floor (even light browns) then the gray or the white panel will work. If you work with these light gray/white floors, you will need to add in a "wood" tone (not gray...but brown) somewhere (could be furniture or island or counter top) to get closer to the mid-century mod you are looking for.

Your furniture will need to be STRONGLY mid-century modern to get the white cabs + white floors + white counters to move towards mid-cent. mod. It can be done...but we need a mid tone brown in there to save the day.

For the beach look I LOVE the look of white on white on white. It's one of my favourite looks.

Gray cabinets are too trendy, you will get tired of them. They will start to feel too institutional. Do the light cabinets and the darker floor to ground everything.

Painted cabinets are great for the flooring you are looking at. I love how the darker flooring contrasts with the light cabinets, but there are some light tones in the flooring that pull from the cabinet colour.

I like the first photo very much -- gives me a feeling of driftwood somehow. Gorgeous combination with the two cabinet tones. Makes me want to reproduce this for my next rehab kitchen!! :)

Poshky, have you decided yet? They are such different looks.. so hard to decide. I think I prefer either the light floor, light cabs, with dark island, or with out... OR light floor with all dark cabinets. Did I miss where you said your demographic? Location... age bracket? May seem not important but really, it does matter.

You gave it to me... the basics of where you are in life and in region do have a lot to do with appropriate choices on projects. I'm not saying that you can't do contemporary style in a country location, just saying that a more fashion forward choice is more typical for a younger demographic and a more classic, timeworn choice for an older. Your choice is fairly classic and I think a very good one!

What will you use for backsplash materials with these choices?

Ooooooooooh! Love, love the pendant. I recently completed a project where we did colored pendants and did a complementary color to the backsplash... let me see if I can find the pic (the bottom pic in purple and green)..... This was still in process. This is a pretty high end product from Fireclay Tile out of CA.

I think in your case a glass tile would be really cool. But don't go with a color mix unless its a monochromatic mix. I've shared some ideas below.

You went with the light floors! Kudos to you. I would go with a light quartz counter & white porcelain subway tile installed in a horizontal running bond pattern or mix it up with a lightly marbled subway in a chevron pattern the whole way through. Enjoy your new home & have fun with it. You'll love it.

Thank you for the pics and the ideas. I do like the subway tile the smaller tile I do not think I would like in the long run. It would be to busy for me. I am not a blue person, but I do like the turquoise and aqua. White might be safer! Sandraclark yes I went with the light floor:) It was a hard decision but I do like it. It looks good so far. Now just waiting on the cabinets. I hope they look like I hope!

I will need some help from you all on the hardware. I do not want the bars really because we always tend to catch our pants on them, but they are so pretty! I do not like the cup look. I think that is not the direction I am going for. I wonder if you could do the bars at the top and maybe tabs or something on the bottom. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on this that I may have overlooked?

I would suggest you have the grey color on base cabinets and the white on the wall cabinets.
