Help- Light or dark countertops with white cabs in small kitchen?
Comments (19)Thanks, everyone! Wow, I really appreciate the thoughts, and the example kitchens, both of which are gorgeous. I'm going to be installing undercabinet lighting. And I may install recessed lighting and/or a pendant over the peninsula, but I'm waiting on that. I'll keep looking toward light counters... some of the granites that I have found i like in photos (kashmir white for instance) aren't readily available in my area (I think that its quarry closed down anyway). I've been having a difficult time finding a light granite that I really like but going out to look again today. I don't want to go too gray as an undertone but would prefer balance of warm/cool in the mix of colors. Or just quartz... So any suggestions on that, based on your experience, also appreciated! (Organic white Ceasarstone- check, I'll look at that one!) If I can't come up with a definite on the counter by tomorrow, I have to give a cabinet color.... given my Super White trim, and the fact that the kitchen has no light, I'm thinking something that blends with that but is not so stark white. Comments (35)On the wait until later train of thought: in the time between now and when you'll reno this kitchen, hang out here and find out all kinds of interesting stuff. You'll definitely not want to repeat the electrical switches and outlets which stick out like sore (& mismatched!) thumbs on the tile backsplash. You'll find alternatives here. You'll probably want your new cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling - check out others' kitchens to be sure. You can participate in agonizing over which granite, or maybe quartz, or soapstone, or laminate? Is there room for a pantry somewhere? You'll find things that others' do that you love and never would have thought of and things that you'll *know* you'd never want in your kitchen. For your husband to answer the question about why you'd want to replace those cabinets, there was a thread recently about WHEN it was time. I've linked it in case you missed it or want him to read it. Comments (15)i think i would do a different color counter, so it does not look like you tried to match and failed. somewhat easier to match the b/s to the cabinets if u are set on white b/s. you can always, if budget allows, use your counter as b/s, at least on cooktop wall. looking at your layout, that would look really nice. your eye goes to the counter edge and the base cabs., so if it's off by a shade or two, or color temp, then your never going to LOVE it, and you should. this is a huge project & a lot $$$. you should walk into your kitchen and love it every single day. take your time. bring a cab door with you to stone yards. hold it onto the slabs. preferably w/o flourescent lighting, it makes everything blue :( i had my stone guy hold up an incandescent bulb on the granite. looked totally different than under flourescents.... i know u are set on quartz but u might find a granite that u love. be open to other possibilities....See Morekitchen backsplash suggestions that match countertop (white w/ gold)?
Comments (7)Could’t find your quartz or paint color (SW snowbound?) as I was curious how the whites worked with each other (and the floor, which is also important.). We repainted our cabinets, but color clashed with the floor and ended up painting the lowers black, to help offset. Just be sure the the whites’ undertones are all the same. May want to look into quartz behind stove before you decide to go that route. https://prudentreviews.com/quartz-backsplash-pros-cons/ If it were me, I’d wait to decide on the backsplash (if not using a slab) until the rest is completed. Bring home tiles to test (and more than a tile or two)....See MoreNothing Left to Say
