Comments (18)Hi there, the roots look as if they've been kind of 'cut short' so yes, maybe they are indeed root mealies as suggested above. I'm not familiar with them (thank goodness!) but I'm sure Laura's treatment will work if that's what you have. I personally still think the pot is too large (maybe I'm an underpotter!) as the pot will hold a great deal of compost without any roots to draw out some of the water held in it. Until the plant recovers and grows a more extensive/healthy root system that's able to almost fill the pot, I would go for a smaller one...hoping someone else will chime in with their thoughts on this bit. Now you have shown the later pic, I think I can see what has also possibly happened....The 2 pics seem to have very different mixes in them....the mix in your first pic looks ideal, very open and free draining with big chunky bits. I read you have added cactus mix, in what proportion? Now look at the later pic where the top bit has been removed and the mix is a lot finer, it looks rather wetter too as each time you water the cactus mix has got washed down and now sits in the lower levels and around what roots the plant has. The top layer drains well so always appears dry so maybe you thought it needed watering, but the lower levels were still wet as they held the more water retentive cactus mix and that could have rotted the roots off. I think it could be a problem of three parts. #1 root mealy bugs...if that's what the white dots are #2 too large a pot with lots of un-occupied compost #3 overwatering a gritty mix that's got a bit too much added cactus formula. I would let it dry out a bit and then re-pot.....in a smaller pot if it were mine :) hoping to see some others opinions though. Gill UK...See Moremy computer is turning off. . . .
Comments (5)OK so try removing the left side and leave it off for a few days to see if heat is an issue. Is there a build up up crud under the fan you see mounted on the motherboard? This is the heatsink for the processor and it is designed to shut the computer down if it overheats for protection. Remove the power cord if you go in there and rest a bare arm or hand on the metal frame to eliminate static electric. You should seriously consider installing an anti malware program for greater protection. These do not run automatically but you update and run at intervals. Consider MS Essentials, Superantispyware, Malwarebytes or any other program you feel will keep you safe. Those mentioned are all free but pay attention during the install or you'll find yourself installing the 'for a fee' software....See MoreRavencajun Help Needed for Computer problems
Comments (36)I fear you still have some of the infections still lingering and that could very well be interfering with your installation. I would suggest going to LzD and having Corrine look at your logs she will be able to see if any of the infection is still there and how to remove it. She is great at this she goes step by step as slow as you need. You would not want to risk having infections on it at any rate. Analysis and Malware Removal that is the link to LzD where you can create your own post, you do need to register at the forum and they will email you back. I am there and Corrine will be there to help you. Let us know so we can be watching for you....See MoreHard to turn Computer off & on ....
Comments (9)First, you should know that to unplug the machine to turn it off is only making things worse. If you continue, eventually it may not start at all. Second, your lack of knowledge and lack of available help severely limits your options. Therefore whether you like it or not, correcting this situation will involve spending some money. As I see it, here are your choices (assuming, of course that the machine has no hardware problems): OPTION #1: Pay someone to completely reinstall Windows 7 on this computer. This will wipe out everything that is currently on the machine and return it to the way it was when it was brand new. This would also involve doing multiple Windows Updates and when finished you would have a good-running machine with an operating system that is already outdated and soon to be unsupported (no more security updates). If you're lucky and the machine has a RECOVERY PARTITION, you wouldn't have to buy a new copy of Win 7. This is probably the cheapest way to fix Windows 7. OPTION #2: Pay someone to install Windows 10 on this machine....if it can be done. It would look different than what you're used to and would probably seem to run slower, but it would be much better than the way things are now. This might cost more than fixing Win 7 but hopefully not too much. OPTION #3: Buy a new computer with Windows 10. What you have posted so far leads me to think your only use of a computer is to access the Internet. You'd be much better off if you would use your efforts to become familiar with the current version of Windows. If you shop carefully, you could find a good basic desktop for under $500...maybe less. Keep in mind that if you run into any problems fixing the old machine, repairing it could easily exceed the cost of a new one. A local store would be your best bet, especially if they also provide service and maybe an extra warranty. One thing I WOULD NOT DO is use your Win 7 computer to buy something over the Internet because I'll bet it is already severely infected....See MoreMike C
