LOL, when I posted I was seeing blue and black. Now I opened to see the link and it is white and gold again! What the heck. So funny.

So here's my beef with understanding. There are two pictures side by side and one is blue/black and the other looks white (or lilac) and gold. Same eyes, same page, same dress, so why are the pictures so different?! It has to be some trick. I clicked the link before reading anything to avoid bias, and that's what I saw. Then I read. I agree, there is some kind of trick or computer miscommunication?

Cookie, if I am understanding you correctly that the first two photos seem to change from white and gold to blue and black, at different times, then my DD and I are not experiencing that at all, lol! For us, the first two photos always show a dingy white dress with goldish trim, but the photo of the dress being worn next to the bride, is always blue and black for us. Is it only the top two pics that change colour for you, or can you sometimes see the dress beside the bride as also being gold and white? If that pic ever looks gold and white to you, it's hilarious to me how we can be seeing the same pic so differently, lol!

Where do you see 2 pictures side by side on that link?

I see picture one of the dress from top to hip area, Picture 2 the entire dress, Picture 3 the top neckline area, Picture 4 the dress on a woman, Picture 5 the dress on a mannequin none of those were side by side comparisons they were one after another.

Are we seeing different pictures on that link?

The dress on the woman by the bride is a blue and black dress and the one on the mannequin. I think the only ones changing are the top 3 which to me are white and gold.

rob, now I'm really confused. Where are the two pics that are 'side by side?' When I click on the link, I only see separate photos of the dress as I scroll down vertically. DD and I are waiting for her hubby to come downstairs to see if he sees things differently than us, since he's very mathematical and we're both very artistic, lol!

Well this is weird, the longer I stare at the one on the mannequin it begins to slightly change colors towards the white and gold, but not as white and gold as the first picture. But it definitely begins to lighten up. The one on the woman doesn't change.

Thanks raven, I thought you were referring to side by side pics on the OP's link, which I definitely wasn't seeing, lol! It is interesting to read about the various factors that change our perception of how we see the dress.

I do not know if this an appropriate way to post but I have so many questions and don't know how to get into this new site-please someone -How do I post w/out going into someone Else's post like I am doing now. I am still seeing the dress change from the white and gold to the blue and black? I am looking at the dress on the top of the page of the news article only so only the one picture. It's like the colour changes in the blink of an eye. My daughter who is home sick today only sees the white and gold but for me the colour seems to be alternating? Mostly I see white and gold though and the blue and black sneaks in and then disappears back to white and gold. I am only so interested because I see both colours at various times. I wish I only saw one but I don't?
When I open RavenCajun's link I get the same thing. I see three black and blue dresses and then (with a blink of an eye) I see one white and gold, one slightly darker white and gold and one blue and black? I feel like I am going bonkers, lol. My daughter sees two white and gold and one blue and black only.

So if you change the monitor settings, it affects the colors. Could just be different monitors?

Grams when you click on Kitchen Table, the very top box is where you start a new topic. Type in the subject line, and then the message box. It's the same as before, but it used to be at the bottom of the page. It's now at the top.

As far as bookmarks, if you had Kitchen Table saved on your bookmarks/favourites bar before, it will still be there. I have never saved a new bookmark or anything since the change. My bookmarks are all on my bookmarks bar at the top of my websites. Kitchen Table, Cooking, Yahoo, Google, etc.

I didn't see any side by side dresses at all on the original link either and didn't understand robs comments. I did a Google search and found a ton of articles about this dress including the one with the side by side pictures. And some of them have pretty interesting information about our eyes and how we perceive things.

No mention at all concerning monitor settings in any of the articles I read.

I only see 3 photos of this dress on the OP's post. The first one is white and gold, the one where the girl is wearing it standing by the bride is blue and black as is the one on the mannequin.

The first one posted by ravencajun (oh to have time stamped posts again) of three dresses side by side is white and gold going into shadows. No black and blue. Of all the sites where I've seen this dress the one posted by the OP is the only place I"ve seen it in blue and black. Maybe it's the lighting.

I saw a model wearing it on a morning show and it was definitely blue and black. But the pic on yahoo is white and gold. I'm sure it has to do with lighting and computers, if not two totally different dresses. If that is the case, then someone is having a good laugh.

Changing the white balance is something we do in photography. It can be adjusted on the camera settings, later in photoshop or by using a different light source. When scuba diving we often carry a white balance card, because colors at depth change.

Well they are saying that the largest numbers are for the gold and white so I guess I am in the big group. My neighbor told me at lunch she first saw white and gold but went back and now sees blue and black only no more white and gold.

On my HP laptop, I see blue & black on all of the snapshots on the link posted. The only difference was the shades darker or lighter, and that was due to photo exposure. I did a "refresh" and reopened on the same link a few time, I still see all photos of the dress as blue & black.

On my tablet, I see a bit of gold at the neckline but the rest of the dress is clearly black and blue. The neckline area has more bright light over it (as in incandescent photography); thus, it shaded a bit lighter. In a different screen, this could interpret it as gold instead of black.
