how do you change a jades plants color.... confused.
Comments (2)A jade that is happily getting direct sun will get some reddish and/or purplish coloring. For example, my plain green jade stays green all winter, but after a week in the sun, it gets reddish leaf edges. After a few weeks, a lot of the leaves are half red. For my variegated one, the cream and green gets the addition of purple when it gets direct sun. My hummels sunset has a lot of the neon green turn red, and a bright red I might add. So, really, it depends on the variety, and how much sun it gets. I don't let mine see anything less than 50 degrees, and 50's is normal at night most of the summer around here, so I'm not sure on the temperature thing. I also don't try and stress my jades by withholding water or fertilizer; I just treat them good all year. Joe...See MoreNewly planted japanese maple leaves wilting and changing colors
Comments (4)Looks like transplant shock to me. Was the tree exposed when you transported it home? That can cause a lot of stress and foliar damage. Regardless, it will eventually perk back up once it's had time to settle in and get sufficient water. I would not be too precise about the watering......as often as needed (you will have to test the soil physically)...but applied slowly and deeply. Do not let the soil surrounding the tree dry out but neither keep it overly saturated. Measuring in gallons is not going to cut it :-) And skip the B1 - that's pretty much considered snake oil and is not necessary to assist in establishment. Comments (3)I would consider that normal, yes :-) Young JM's, and most especially those that are newly planted, will often go through some color changes. And even some early leaf drop. But keep it well hydrated (not soaked) and it should replace whatever is lost. I recently purchased an 'Enkan' and much of the growth is greening out. And all new growth is coming in green rather than red. But it is in less sun than it was at the nursery :-) Your new tree may be in more sun than it is used to, hence some early coloring....See MoreWhy my hoya plant is turning brown and it's color is changing to dark?
