New to roses... But i got lots of them...
Comments (9)Check out polyanthas, teas, chinas, noisettes. You are fairly near the Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham - go during April, you will be enchanted! They have a gazebo similiar to yours that stays in full bloom with roses, annuals. It would give you lots of ideas! Chamblees Nursery is wonderful, they have lots of antique roses priced at $8.95, compared to $18.95 at ARE. I have Roberta Bondar, ordered some years ago from Hortico, and its a good rose. Cl. Pinkie is good, as is Clair Matin. Caldwell Pink is a smaller rose, but blooms all the time, as does Old Blush for me. One of my very favorites is Crepuscule - it is a bushy climber, blooms in peach and is a constant bloomer - one of my very favorite roses [Chamblees].The Griffith Buck roses [you can get them at Chamblees] are excellent bloomers. I especially like Bright Melody, Quietness, Earth Song. These, you should definintely check out. I am in east Texas, and 2 hours from you, so the same roses that bloom for me will do well for you. Also, the Knockout roses bloom constantly and come in hot pink, softer pinks and a Sunny Knockout that starts yellow and turns white. You can fill in with them. I think you will find there will be lots of choices. I was just at Chamblees last week and the roses are cut back but if you visit there in April, they will all be in full bloom and it is gorgeous! I, too, was saddened when Teas closed. Robertsons Roses had closed a couple of years previously, they had the very best potted roses I have seen, now Teas is gone....You can always check out the David Austin roses. Their plant is in Tyler - I make my order then go pick them up and make a day of it visiting Chamblees, Harris Nursery [near Chamblees, they also have roses] and Blue Moon Gardens and Hand Nursery. Also, ask on the Antiques forum - you will get lots of suggestions. Judith...See MoreID little green worms dessicating rose foliage, please
Comments (53)I think I too have Sawfly on my English Climbing Roses. It is full of buds almost ready to open and yesterday I noticed something that looked like saw dust all over the buds. Then I noticed the holes in the leaves which I had last year for the first time. I have found that my rose is full of lots of creatures!!! It seems to have Aphids or Spider Mites,Sawfly (looks like a small caterpillar?), and a worm that eats buds. But I also found little tiny green worms under some leaves near the Sawfly. Are these the same things just hatched? I found a different looking green worm on a bud that I squished. I noticed other buds nibbled on near the bottom of the plant. So I ran in and looked up what to do organically. I read that you can use a garden hose to rinse off Aphids and I tried that last night. This morning they were almost all gone. I was able to squish the few left that I could see. I also tried squishing each Sawfly I could find. They look like small Caterpillars as mentioned if it is the same thing. I got about 10-15 of them. I found that where ever the holes are you can find them quickly. Still wondering if I should get Nematodes and Lady Bugs to eat the rest? I had a Gardner tell me Nematodes eat the Sawfly Larvae in the ground and Lady Bugs eat the Aphids. Or I could try the flour or Dawn. I love these roses and want to get rid of this problem for future seasons:(...See MoreSectionals. Love them? Hate them? Why?
Comments (35)This is like some language I don't know igloochic. :) My brother has a natuzzi and he isnt that happy with it for some reason. I think rosesstink just suggested I give my DH a time out. :) that made my morning. I have to say, I used to get upset. The spills on the floor, the rips on things, I can not believe I am typing this because it makes it real, but the fact that when I asked DH to hang the pictures in my DR recently he accidently hit my mothers crystal ball with the HAMMER! and I still do get upset fleetingly, but I realized I could either learn to live with it, or get divorced. He happens to be wonderful in many other ways, and takes such good care of our son, that I decided to learn to live with it. :) He just doesn't get it. Well, he does to a point. I didnt' find out about the entire container of V-8 juice that was spilled on my rug until a couple days after he did such a good job cleaning it up. I think it took him hours. I couldn't remember your screen name srg215, but I have become obsessed with that sectional and it is your fault! I am going to move the sofas we have to you can't walk through the opening mimicking a sectional and see how we do for a few days....See MoreBlum drawer glides just installed--hate them!!
Comments (46)This thread is old, but I found it when googling custom cabinet BLUM drawer. FYI for anyone else wondering about this: All Blum Glides are ORANGE - it is actually the lock that is orange, not the glide itself. You CANNOT just install Blumotion bottom-mount soft-close glides onto any drawer box - the bottom / back of the box must be CUSTOM notched to fit the glide! EVERY SINGLE variety of glide on the market requires DIFFERENT notches to fit the glide! This includes different styles of Blum as well as the cheaper (of which that green glide is one) glides. Custom wood drawer boxes notched for Blum soft-close undermount Blumotion glides will cost AT LEAST $100 a piece - and that is for small, shallow drawers! The glides themselves are not very expensive, but unless you have a well-equipped woodwork shop do not even bother trying to DIY these! If you do decide to get custom Blum drawers, make sure the cabinet maker NORMALLY uses BLUM, and preferably ONLY Blum! I'm just trying to find 12" deep Blum drawers made of solid wood with 1/2" thick bottoms for a shallow dish cabinet, and having trouble finding 3 drawers for less than $400 - and I'll be building the actual cabinet to fit them! I'm almost considering buying Ikea, using the drawer as a template, ripping out the glides and making my own out of wood. For some reason the Ikea entire cabinet is less than just a drawer!...See MorenanadollZ7 SWIdaho
