Does anyone have Blum metabox drawers?
Comments (10)Yes, I believe we have them in our cabinets. They have 5/8" maple plywood bottoms with solid cherry fronts. The metal is in the framework and the sides, finished in a very attractive stainless matte brushed stainless steel. The advantage of these drawers is that they can hold up to 100 pounds each. We have all deep drawers in our base cabinets, and store all of our pots/pans and dishes in them. The few upper cabinets we have only hold glasses. For me, it was well worth the small upgrade charge....See MoreInstructions for changing Blum/Blumotion glides
Comments (0)Someone on the forum emailed me about changing to Blumotion if you have Blum full extention glides. I thought perhaps others might have the same question so here it is: [BTW - If you have one of those email "approve" things, please pre-approve the folks you are emailing to ask a question. Call me difficult, but if you're asking me a question, I don't really want to jump through any extra hoops to answer, and I don't really trust those pre-approval programs since I seem to get an influx of spam every time I enter into into one.] Blum glides come in three pieces on each side. 1) the part that attached to the bottom of the drawer, 2) the part that attaches to the back of the cabinet, 3) the glide part that connects the other two. You need to order all new glide parts. They are designated left and right, one of each for each drawer. Once you have the parts, here is the procedure: Pull the drawer all the way out. Under the drawer, toward the front, there will be an orange lever on each side. Squeeze them both and lift the drawer off the glides. Push the glides back in all the way. There will be a screw that attaches the front of the glide bracket to the side of the cabinet. Remove the screw. Pull the glide bracket forward about 1/2 inch or so until it detaches in the back. Done. Reverse the procedure to install the new one. When you look at the piece attached to the back of your cabinet you will see 2 tabs. The groove on the new slide needs to slide under these tabs. That is what keeps your drawer stable. 7. Pull the glides all the way out and set your drawer on top. Push the drawer all the way lack in. You will hear a click as the glide parts attach. Double-check by pulling the drawer all the way out to ensure it is firmly attached....See MoreAccuride vs Blum soft-close glides--help asap
Comments (14)We are not providing the glides, the furniture maker is. If we specify that we want Blumotion glides, he will get them for us (though, as I mentioned above, his guys aren't used to installing them). Our only experience with soft/self closing drawers has pretty much only been with Blum. When our kitchen cabs were delivered, we'd noticed that some of the glides were Blum, and some were KV's (Knape and Vogt), even though Blumotion glides had been specified in our contract with our KD. As I recall, we did notice a difference between the two brands when playing around with them (I don't remember if they just felt different, or if it was that the KV's were noisier, or the Blums operated more smoothly, but we definitely preferred the Blumotion glides). All incorrect glides were replaced during our install with Blum without a hassle, BTW. We have had a few drawers stop just short of closing fully on occasion, but eventually it clears up on its own (which leads me to think it's dust or debris on the glide itself, as mentioned on that thread you linked caryscott). Otherwise, we're happy with the way they work, which is why we requested soft/self closing glides in our buffet. The only thing our guy told us about the Accuride glides (besides more sizing options with them, which isn't an issue given the sizes of our pull-outs) is that initially there is some resistant when pulling open a drawer (FWIW, we don't seem to notice much resistance with our Blumotion drawers and pull-outs; don't know if what he is describing would be anything more than that) . He thinks that all of these German-engineered/manuf glides are pretty much the same, just that Blum has a more widely recognized name. We might be leaning towards Blum, especially since its what we are familiar with, just hate the thought that his guys might have difficulty installing them (thereby causing problems from the start or at some point down the road). pharaoh, have you any trouble installing Blumotion glides, or would you say they are any more or less difficult to install than Accuride?...See MoreQuestion for Cabinet makers please - drawer glides
Comments (3)I believe the draw is just too heavy for these glides and the intstructions should specify the weight they can hold, the traditional euro ball bearing glides hold 50 to 100lbs each two will be good set to the midway of the side or for two on each side will garantee over 5 to 10 years of service....See Morepharaoh
