Novalis peel-and-stick vinyl planks -- feedback? (Cont)
Comments (12)I've installed the Novalis gunstock in two bedrooms so far and planning to the do the third. So far, we have just installed directly on the existing concrete. The hallway has ceramic tile which sits about 1/4" higher than the Novalis. I am planning to put in a wooden reducer moulding in the doorways to join the two floors. My question is this... I have a large area in my living room that also has the old, nasty carpet, and I would like to put the Novalis in there, too. Two sides go up to the wall, but two sides go up against the tile, and I have the same uneven floor height problem. I would really prefer that the two floors were the same height in this area. Not only for looks, but practicality... there is a lot of foot traffic and dog traffic here (including a 100-lb Doberman) and I think any sort of floor transition moulding would get ruined pretty fast. It also causes problems with the baseboards meeting together properly at corners, where one side would have tile and the other would have the Novalis. So, the question is, can anyone recommend an underlayment that would go over the concrete, be easy to install, and work with the Novalis? I've thought about plywood, but the plywood at Lowe's/Home Depot doesn't seem to be very flat, it's kind of wavy looking and I don't think it would be very good for the flexible vinyl. Is it possible to use cork underlayment? Or is it too squishy for vinyl planks? Also, if it would work, do you still put primer on it? I've used Henry's primer on the concrete, which works great, but cork is probably too porous for that. Any suggestions for underlayment would be greatly appreciated!...See MoreAllure vs Novalis, any news on Allure or is Novalis better ?
Comments (9)Nope, I have no trouble with odor. Maybe a little when if first came out of the box. I am planning on installing again: 1. A bathroom that is in our baseement. Right now the floor is concrete. I am thinking of trying to seal the concrete first. 2. A bathroom in a invesment house we are remodeling. It will be on a cement slab. 3. The kitchen in the invesment house. Wood sub floor, so I am not worried about that. 4. The living room possibly. Not sure yet. Not sure of the condition of the original 100 year old floors yet. The thing I like about the Allure is that the subfloor doesn't have to be perfect like it does with self stick. I was in Lowe's today, and noticed they have a flooring similar to Allure now too. I think it was made by Armstrong. The idea must be catching on....See MoreNovalis vinly flooring
Comments (8)Here is my story posted on the Lowe's website and my resolution is to rip out the floor: With all the great reviews about this product I am almost afraid to post something negative so people think, ah another poor DIYer that doesn't know what or in this case how to do it. Anyway let me give you the facts and you can judge for yourself. After removing the old carpet including all carpet staples the floor was scraped, nailed and sanded where needed. 5mm plywood, (not Lauan!) was put down with rink shank nails. All gaps filled with wood filler and sanded. Before applying Henry's vinyl tile primer floor was swept and vacuumed. So much for the prep work and since I couldn't think of anything else installation was next. Laying down the planks is pretty much a no-brainer and using a hand roller as recommended should be all to it. I did notice from the get go that a couple of planks needed some extra attention and I ended up using full boxes of Novalis planks to keep them down. The next day, which is today, I inspected the work and found that the majority of planks were in one form or shape not sticking. Even the ones with the extra weight on them did not seem to hold well. I was able to lift the tiles up with hardly any resistance. The glue was still soft and it was obvious that hardly any adhesion between the floor and the plank exists. Let me assure you, the preparation was painstakingly done, ambient temperature around 85F, low humidity (Nevada) of 25%, each plank was rolled and rolled again,... I do understand that I am obviously in the minority of unhappy Novalis customers and I have no explanation why this floor is not sticking. I still wait to receive a call back from the customer service representative, not that I expect much of it anyway....See MorePoseidon & Plum Perfect Roses
Comments (47)I gave that one to my mom, but I've seen it a couple times this year. I really like the color. It was perfectly healthy this year and we've had a ton of rain this year near Cincinnati. I think I just heard that it was the wettest July on record. I know it's difficult to draw conclusions on a 1st year plant (especially one growing in someone else's yard), but I like what I see so far. From what I've read, the hot and humid isn't a problem for Plum Perfect. However, there was some uncertainty on winter hardiness due to it being a new introduction though.
