Roof-mounted attic fan and snow (ice dam prevention)

Hello, after several big storms here in eastern Mass., I've decided based on my experiment with a temporary gable fan, that using an exhaust fan to keep the attic cold, helps enormously in minimizing roof edge ice formation (much less than my neighbors).

When and if the snow disappears I'd like to have a roof-mounted fan (such as in the image below) installed. A big snowfall would cover the fan shield, BUT if I turn it on at the first snowflakes, I hope the airflow will keep snow from blocking the fan's outlet. Can anyone please comment on whether this approach is likely to work? Many thanks.
