Need help for outside arbor

This was purchased at a big box store. Four poles of rod iron and rod iron top covered with canvas.

This is Bolted into cement over the cistern. It's like a giant cover 8' x 12' x 14' to make a shade area for garden area . Somewhat like a umbrella the canvas attached to the rod iron frame. At the top. The canvas covering has rotted and trying to look for new ideas to use this . Trash it, cover it, or ?????

If the frame is in good shape I would sure save it. You can buy canvas at a yardage good store like Joann's. I think because of it's size I would use shade cloth comes in beige, gray, & green that I know of. It is 6 ft wide & 20 ft long. Leave it all in 1 piece & I used safety pins(not made in China tho- they just bend) You will pull the end of shade cloth over the rod & pin underneath in several places along the edge pinning it to itself (like a tube of cloth over the rod then open it up all the way down to other end & pull tightly over that rod & pin underneath. Cut off extra You could run some cord or rope over & under & attach to the opposite rods to hold it so wind couldn't whip it. I think that is cheapest way & if you don't get hurricanes it should work well for about $40. I use this method to shade a side garden & leave it up all year as protected area. I use some in back yard so yard doesn't burn up so badly & take it down in fall. Home Depot or Lowe's has rolls & it is lightweight & cuts down on heat a lot. Comes in 20ft, 50ft & 100 ft rolls. Jan

You could also cover the top with lattice.

They are already very close to being too big, and the one on the right and its neighboring shrubs are already smothering the window. And with a second look, I see that the ones to the left are smothering that window as well. I think you may have made the very common mistake of thinking that every house needs to have shrubs, usually evergreen, up against the house. Without a better picture of your house (taken from the front but far enough away so that we can see the entire front and its setting behind it), it's impossible to say with certainty, but I would think that you probably do not need house smothering foundation plantings. In their place, beds that connect to the house but curve out some distance from the house might enhance it far better.

Corrin - I'm not sure how the two spaces relate or what you are having trouble with... Next to the fireplace appears to be a short coffee-table of sorts, but the table painted turquoise is a picnic table on a whole different paver. I'm confused. I think the main area, flanked by the house looks great. The rug is really nice and I love the fireplace. Maybe another area rug there for some additional color and certainly some additional freestanding plants could help (a tall dracaena or corn plant, with some spillers trailing our of the same pot). What about some garden stools? Nice color that can used for drinks or extra seating...

In your master: the two doors into the closet are taking up a ton of hanging space. In reality, you will only have 16' total - that's a lot of real estate for two 8' closets. They'd basically be deep reach-ins. If you remove both doors, and change to a single door by the door to your bathroom, you will have 22 feet of hanging space, with space for a dresser and maybe a window on the far wall. You won't have DIRECT access to your closet from the bathroom, but it's right there. If you get rid of the door into the closet from your bathroom, that would give you a lot more options for bathroom layout as well, and maybe you can eliminate the pocket door into the bath. I love pocket doors, but generally prefer swing doors if the door will be used often. Ideally your bed would go on the front wall, but that won't work with the windows. If it's not terrible for your side elevation, consider adding 2 square (high) windows and place your bed centered on that side wall. You can even squeeze your closet a bit narrower if you're worried about bed + nightstands (if you move the door like I suggest above, you can go to a 7 ft wide closet and still have space for hanging on both sides).

Can you please tell me if I offset the left posts to gain some size to the patio, if that would look wrong. There’s a half round at edge of patio and my moving it over, it makes it so it’s not centered and to scale with the half round shape...is that a problem or not? Ordering lumber soon! Thank you!
