Comments (17)Anyone who follows the Container Gardening board here knows that much of the discussion about pine bark fines is regarding where to find the damn stuff. Obviously it is not easy to find for most people, and it is not available in most big box stores. The pine bark mulch sold in most big box stores is not fines. Most the discussion on the Container gardening forum stems from the fact that most people don't even know what they are looking for, even know what bark fines are despite all the info available about them on the web. And yes I know that the bags of pine mulch sold in the big box stores is not the same thing. Pine bark fines are not sold outside in the mulches section. They are sold inside the section devoted to starting seeds and growing plants. In the Lowe's here, just there yesterday, they are inside on the shelves next to the exotic plants section where the big containers, container plants, cactus mix, the violet mix, the perlite, vermiculite, decorative container gravel etc. is located. At Home Depot, in both of them here, they are just outside the door into the gardening section (not with the bags of mulches), the section on the shelves next to the super sized containers and the similar exotic soils and mixes. Comments (16)I've had full dump truck loads (they're about 30-40 cubic yards) left in my driveway on 3 occasions over the last 5 years. I had to move them myself and usually could do it over a weekend. I use a very large, light plastic wheelbarrow and a very large, lightweight plastic shovel (looks like a snow shovel.) The big lightweight shovel makes it easy -- could not do it w/ a standard shovel or heavy wheelbarrow. On one occasion, I rammed a big sliver of wood through my leg by walking too close to an unfinished raised garden bed while hauling the wheelbarrow full of compost (the sliver looked like a pencil and went in the front of my leg, out the back.) I drove to the doc-in-the-box to have it what I couldn't pull out myself (ouch), removed. The doc got a new ultra sound machine and decided to use it on my leg to look for remaining sliver bits. He also gave me a picture of my "baby" embedded in my leg :) However, that's nothing compared to my neighbor who did the same thing except with gravel! And, he considered renting a bobcat, but decided to use a shovel and wheelbarrow instead so as not to crush his sideyard. We nicknamed him "The Machine" -- one hard working & tough guy! I would never try to move gravel -- that'd be a back breaker for sure. Am certain I could find a couple of high school football players who need some extra cash to do that kind of thing for me! :) Celestial...See Morehow to figure out cubic feet of currernt refrig?
Comments (4)The easy way is too look at the label, usually in the freezer. It will give model # (which are usualy a group of letters) and serial # (a group of numbers, which your posted # most likely is). It also usually (but not always) included cubic space of the freezer and refrigerator sections. Or you can measure the exterior. Most of your older full sized refrigerators are going to be 36" wide by 70" tall and 32" deep and are around 25 cubic feet. Counter depth will have the box be only 24" and the cubic space is smaller, usually around 21 cubic fet. Newer insulation technology, and deeper front to back depths give "full sized" fridges 27 to 29 cubic feet. A 33" wide fridge will be approximately 19-22 cubic feet depending on height and depth. A 30" wide fridge will be between 15 and 19 cubic feet, again depending on height and depth. A more usefull overall measurement is actually shelf space. But it's not one that most manufacturers will list. Also, how a fridge is laid out will also have more impact on actual usability than gross cubic feet will. A french door fridge with 21 cubic feet capacity may have more usable shelf space than a 27 cubic foot side by side simply because it's organized better and with more continuous shelf space....See MoreRefrigerators, GE vs. Whirlpool and Top-Freezer vs. French Doors
Comments (17)Ok - some followups: Lightlystarched - As someone who owns a French Door, I was clearing up your neighbors misconception so others here would not be mislead Vegas t - Hopefully you will really like it as we do. Like you - we did not want ice / water thru the door. had that on our old side by side - it broke twice and took up lots of freezer room. I love the little water dispenser inside - and the filter system is really nice. Plus the ice cube maker is very functional in the bottom freezer and doesn't take up lots of space like an in door unit does. Lm20021 - yes the french doors are very nice and take up lote less room when open - much better IMO than having a single huge door on a top-freezer model chipshot - yes - icemakers may be standard on most 25 cu ft models - but some are thru the door, some are in the bottom freezer. That does make a difference. I attached a link to the 25.8 cu ft Samsung french door with icemaker / water dispenser BUT not thru the door below so you can see what I mean Here is a link that might be useful: 25.8 cu ft Samsung...See Moredietitian
