Message doesn't go even after replacing BOTH Toner & Drum. Try this Open door press Clear/Back key press *00 press OK Do not choose anything for drum replacement. I always used HP inkjets but this time I went with a Brother laser that is both black and color, it is fantastic and it is a multi function does it all, scan, copy fax print and so much more, I got it when it went on sale at office max for a little over $300. But with what I will save on not buying the expensive ink it will be worth it. I would really suggest looking at this same one it would be perfect for a small office. My husbands company uses these Brother lasers and they rarely ever have any problems other than changing the toner occasionally. They do fast delivery too. I am not kidding this thing will do stuff I will never need to do but for an office it would be great. I checked on several sites for reviews and this model had a lot of positive reviews.

Called Brother tech dept again with your ideas, but got nowhere. The gal had me open and close the door and when I said no the "status" light didn't change, no change in any lights and I hear nothing from the unit at all, she said only option is taking it in for repair. She seemed to feel because of the lack of changes I just mentioned, nothing can be done at my end. In looking back I see I've had two Brother laser printers, each lasting 4 years. I'm guessing this isn't a fabulous record. I'll probably stick with them for my 3rd printer in part because I assume they are still highly rated and because I am familiar with this type of printer. My question now is should I get the model that has the automatic duplex feature (print on both sides) or not? The price is the same- $150. Sometimes I think the more features you get the more that can go wrong. The two models I'm looking at are the HL 5240 and HL 5340. Of course I'd love anymore feedback if you have thoughts on this. If it is only a mild blink and the lights don't dim a lot, and there are no other symptoms of a problem, then it probably is ok. Mine has done that for years with no apparent ill effects. Be alert for smells or noises from switch or receptacle boxes, or flickering that is not caused by the printer cycling on and off. I would look at what is on the circuit and not load it heavily. You may need to shut down the computer, turn off the breaker for a test, and make a list of which lights and receptacles are dead so you know what all shares the circuit. Don't use space heaters, vacuum cleaners, and other big appliances on that circuit while the printer is cycling and you'll be ok.
