Hi folks...I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. We got back last Friday, and there was a TON of work waiting for me, garden and desk work. I have been very busy. No excuse. We were spared. The firemen were great. They even used this place as a 'base' of sorts one of the nights. What great men. It was ashy here, but I cannot complain. The deer have not been touching the roses (Liquid Fence, yay!) and we all returned to the best fall flush I have ever had. Thanks to all of you who have been so wonderful through all of this. Please keep in touch with e-mails too, it's great to hear from you. Amazing when you consider this thread has gone from all across the bottom 48 to England and Denmark and Italy. God bless you all! I have not been on this forum much the last few days as I have been mesmerized by this storm from very beginning. It first appeared in the GFS model, then the Euro Model picked up up, at which time the GFS dropped it, and took Sandy out to see. That was where things remained for about a week, at which point both weather models came into agreement, and the picture was always some version of horrendous after that. I have every compassion for all of you that have lots trees, had wild areas distroyed, trees striped to trunks, etc. We had similar effects during our Jan 2009 ice storm, and everything is STILL recovering. Sandy turned out to be even worse than forecast, and that is saying something. But long term, it will be good for the forest, as it will weed out the weaker trees, and it will give more room for the remaining to expand, and it will allow new colonization, and in more mature forest, understory trees that have been waiting their turn will burst forth to fill the void over the coming year. Dogwoods will get more light, and flower more prolifically, same with serviceberry, and many other species especially wildflowers. Maybe the native pollinators can catch a break, and you will be rewarded with butterflies. The opening of the canopy will also help to control dogwood anthracnose, by drying the foliage so that the fungus can't take hold, giving much needed relief to those species in the NE. Point of all this being that while this is a horrible event, so good will actually come from it, and all of you can set yourself in the right mindset to see these things to make it all more tolerable. I just looked up for the name in the dictionary, didn't get understanding the real meaning that much.

Joanne- I saw the words ' green words' , what does that mean?

HI, Kai, I was just joking. The plant is a Lyon's hybrid, they live in a part of the U.S. that has a lot of very severe winter rain and wind storms with dark skies. This weather is called a raging storm. Rage means angry, as though the weather is angry at us.

Regarding green words, With the old format, the software program caused some words to show up as green, linked to advertisements. If they were clicked on, the ads would pop up.

Joanne - Thank you for explaining them clearly!

The summer is coming this morning, I can tell by the direction of the wind. There are several wind chimes hanging in my backyard garden. Once the summer comes, the chimes will sing. They chime all day, not only the summer comes, but also the summer storm is coming also.

i don't see the stormy rage - it must have bloomed first during a bad storm....

reminds me of rob's jitterbug. but maybe that's just the leaf shape...

what size pot is it in?

This looks really similar to a plant I picked up second hand. Are you supposed to sell them like that?? It didn't have a name tag on it so I didn't know what to expect. Anyhow.. mine was in a 6" pot with about four suckers off the main plant.. it looked more like a bush than a violet. But one surgery later, I shared around the suckers (free mind you) and the one I kept is looking lovely. It's bloomed twice now.. and is finally looking happy. :-)
