Aphids are winning
Comments (4)jwink246, the insect pests that usually feed on milkweed plants are not nearly as bothersome as those that prey on some other plants. The two types that I find most often are aphids and Milkweed bugs. In the first case (aphids) they are sucking insects and can be controlled with any of the milder sprays such as insecticidal soap, horticultural oil, or just a hard spray of water from the hose a few times a week, or so. Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is a rather substantial plant and, with aphids, even if you do nothing, there will be very little damage. There are many types of aphids...the one that usually preys on milkweeds is the... OLEANDER APHID The other insects that feed somewhat on Milkweed plants are the Large and the Small Milkweed Bugs. These are seed-eating bugs and won't give you much of a problem unless you save seeds. Both of these bugs are pretty enough to put up with. I, personally, ignore these because most eradicating products would wipe out the butterflies in my yard. LARGE AND SMALL MILKWEED BUGS THIS IS A SHOT OF THE LARGE MILKWEED BUG ALONG WITH THE OLEANDER APHIDS. Nature will step in to control most insect infestations as the below shot shows. GREEN LACEWING larvae feeding on OLEANDER APHIDS. They are voracious feeders. Hope this helps! Bob...See MoreOT Embarrassing moment in the garden

Comments (10)You can always give it a shot and see what happens. Mine was planted on the NE side, right up against the house so it had good winter protection from the elements. Received good morning sun till about noon, then bright shade. The bed has been build up to about 12-18" above grade over the years. I think it died down to the ground the first year but came back from the roots. Each subsequent year the trunks have all survived. It definitely gives off the tropical vibe, but I grew tired of pulling it. I just hacked pulled some yesterday. If you want to give it a go, lemme know and the next time I pull some I'll send it your way for shipping. Garrett....See MoreEdging - show me what you have or what ya wish you had.
Comments (18)Sweet Monkey, I m also in the investigating edging / border. I ve had garden with and without. Without, the lawn guys just end up making the beds bigger and bigger or end up weed whacking your prize plants. Weeding is a never ending job but the right border edging goes along way in helping keep mulch in place etc. I personally love the flat natural stone path border. I can also see the more artistic borders in a more artistic garden. Oldmanroot, I reading on my phone so I can't see your picture that well but are those coral rocks? If so, I especially like them cause they give the perfect nod to a Florida bed! helen...See Morek8 (7b, NJ)
