OT Embarrassing moment in the garden

There is a private garden down the road...I finally got the nerve up and took some plants with me and introduced myself...Wonderful people and gardens..:) I said come by anytime...Lol

Well she showed up today..Grass not mowed weeds not pulled hahahhah It was so embarrassing...Lol I have spent this spring putting up the new gh addition...The gardens looked like crap... I was so embarrassed...But she did fall in love with some plants...I am gonna take them to her...

Becareful of what you wish for...I just wanted to meet the neighbors...Lol Oh well I told her come back at the end of summer it should hopefully look good than... I am still smiling..Barb

Oh my gosh! It happened again... Our neighbors over on the forty stopped over to drop off pots that were ours..lol I am dying here...

This is kinda like when your house is not clean and everyone stops over... Darn the house is clean but no one comes in...Lol hahahhahah They want to see the gardens...

Hey I just learned something... Thay have a house with the million dollar view like Bobs... Well I found out for shade my grass looks like crap...Use "Chicago Parks" Grass seed.... Oh my gosh all the pros are stopping by...Lol Geez Can I get a break..Lol He went home with Charles Grimaldi...:)))

I can relate, my lawnmower broke a few weeks back, and I've just been too busy to take it into the shop for repairs. Of course the last few weeks, EVERYONE seems to be coming by the house.... you almost need a machete to walk in the back yard! hehehe

My first veggie garden last year. Grew some cucumbers. Was very excited to see them actually producing and couldn't wait for the harvest! Unfortunately, most were mutants like this one below. I called it my "Swan Cuke". Can a vegetable be embarrassed? I think this one was. Not growing cukes this year. By mid-summer the tomato plants almost took over the world and shaded everything else around them until they toppled their supports. Learned to keep things in check for this year. Fewer plants, more support, better control. You learn from your mistakes, right?

Wow, thanks, you all! I posted again just to give the SAMA link to deedee :) liz, I had *no* visual art background in terms of actually making it -- I'm a longtime student of history of art and appreciator of art, but my talents lie more in music and words than visual art. I can't draw to save my life (my DD disagrees but she's my DD :)). I'm really happy that you say she has a cat expression (and that you noticed the ear hairs, littledog :) -- I always love those when I see them in domestic cats)-- it was a composite portrait, as I indicated, and I worked and reworked it so much. I won't feel that it's really delivered until I know whether Terri noticed her, etc...it's fine if she didn't, I just want to know one way or the other, iykwim. And I'm serious about the links; there are so many wonderful mosaic artists in this country, and they're extremely generous about sharing their knowledge and encouraging each other on, even wrt beginners. Very different from the professional worlds of music and theatre I was in, in that regard. I'm just glad that gardenweb led me, however indirectly, to find something I really love and with any luck can keep doing for a while to come (a trigger thumb operation would help, but I've got to save up for that)...

My mother rented a house on Lake Bracciano, north of Rome when I was in sixth grade, and I -- we -- had that same experience. We used to see groups of women coming out of the woods with armfuls of those anemone coronaria, and the wheat fields would be covered with crocuses as far as the eye could see. The woods were filled with cyclamen and primroses. It was heart stopping. Just lately I was reading a memoir by Norman Lewis, author of Naples 1944, who was there (somewhat north of where we had been) some 10 years later --in the beginning of the hippie era , and he too, almost incidentally, described the shock of the incredible beauty of the woodland wild flowers there -- they are the wild flowers of myth and poetry and yet they are real. (He also described some rather macabre happenings in the expat community, which fortunately we had had no experience of, the 1950s being a more innocent time). Anyway, when he got back to England he took up gardening.

Melissa, I have a little -- very little actually -- patch of woods that I call my "Look Into" garden. I love to go and poke around to see what is happening there in the early spring. Like your woods, it is planted in native spring ephemerals, snowdrops, and assorted spring bulbs. I love that patch of ground!

I am SO embarassed by my yard right now. When my son had his accident last July, I did nothing in the yard until late February. Then, I had to stop in March for a while when he had more surgery.

I still have 2 beds to clean out. I can't seem to get rid of the fire ants. I also have plans for 6 more beds!

Hey Barb,

That's what happens when you get addicted to plants. : ) You go from one project to the other and it gets so big something gets neglected. People who don't have big gardens don't know what kind of work it is to keep them up. Then there are the new projects to keep you from doing your regular chores. haha When you get it straightened up you will have to invite her back for a evening garden party. : )

Ryan I hope you get your lawn mower fixed... Three hours later the lawn is mowed :)Doesnt it bite... Especially when we brag what wonderful gardens we have...Than they stop over...Lol hahhah Still dying here..:) My gardens suck....Compared to the pros... :)

Amelia ouch! Fire ants I remember them down south... I was getting hit with bumble bees...Lol They must have a nest in the honeysuckles (usually they are nice bees)... They were attacking me too... What a day couldnt win for nothing...Lol

Gardenmasterjo! Bingo! You hit it right on the head... I dislike to say this but this garden(s) is too much for me... hahhah I wish I was a pocket person sometimes..:) All on my own! :) Happy friday everybody... Tommorow is weeding the two vegetable gardens...Lol

Lol Barb,

I had the neighbor who lives 2 houses down and got the yard of the month award, peek into my back yard 2 days ago while he was weed eating the neighbors yard next to mine. He is very ill so he did it for him.

Needless to say my wild area was taller then the 8 inches allowed by the city and I was so scared he would call em, that I cut it the next day. Even though the wild flowers were still growing some what.

Dont you want to poke him in the nose with a pitch fork...hahha Nosey neighbors.... I am sorry you had to cut down your wildflowers.. Isnt Texas known for their wildflowers? I bet they are very pretty :)
