Seeing the colors change on threads you've looked at (Firefox)

Someone else (besides me) was annoyed by not being able to see which threads had been opened, so I'm posting a new topic.

In Firefox, there's a simple add-on called Visited 1.1 which changes the visited link color (you can choose your own color). It toggles on and off really easily, and only affects the color of visited links (the subject headers are links) so it's not an overkill fix like changing it in your options and forcing your own colors on every website.

The toggle is Alt+V, so if you have another site in a separate tab or window where you want to see the programmed vlink color, you can just toggle off, and then on again when you come back to GzzW.

It's not perfect--the links don't reset right away to unread after a new follow-up is added like in GW, but it's better than without. Don't forget to use the middle button on the top right above the list of topics to show a preview of the last message. Combined with the different colored vlinks, it's pretty good.

Can't figure out why my Firefox Colorful Tabs don't display

Biwako - I went to options and changed it to default (I had had it set for colors to correlate with domain - and it used to work like that - but I thought I'll try anything). Again - it worked at first - and then the color goes away (it's odd - it's not just when I close a tab or open a new one that it's white - the same tab that was blue before - now is white - no colors now at all). I cannot imagine what add-on might conflict. It's a daunting task to figure out which one. I've been so wild about the FF add-ons - that I have a ton of them. I don't believe any of them were new (oh - except for extensions to try and capture hulu streaming videos). I'll try the safemode and see if colorful tabs works there. If it does, I'm willing to try eliminating those last couple of video capture extensions. If that doesn't work - I'm in for a big, long process of elimination. I don't have any color - or the other extensions that were identified as being incompatible with Colorful Tabs. But something else has gone awry - my all-in-one-sidebar doesn't work consistently either. I guess something I added or updated is causing a problem. I'll report back if I figure it out. Thanks. I have asked his children......they said they don't want it...have a houseful of their own already. I know nothing about craigslist....are they like Ebay? Do you have to join and what is the commission rate? I have checked for a couple things on craigslist, and there is never anything remotely near to where we live.....rural Kansas. I am still thinking maybe we can take it to the auction house. I asked him tonight if he was "attached" to his Hummels (because that just isn't my thing...even told him I was going to part with my Zolan plate collection)...and he said the only things he was really attached to was a water color painting done by a famous artist and two bronze statues of bears that he bought when he lived in Montana. So maybe he is not as "attached" as he seemed to be....I'll keep "working" on him. I had a garage sale last spring and did make enough to buy the new dining room chairs, but everytime I mention looking for new ones, he doesn't want to go and I do not want to spend that kind of money for 8-10 chairs without him seeing them....because if they are not comfortable enough for him, he wouldn't be happy with them and then I don't think I would be able to enjoy them either.

They just rolled out the the change to visited links. It should change from green to grey.

Thanks, Tamara! With good practices (by no means guaranteed with the huge volume of pages) the change should have taken about five minutes. It's nice to see the staff being so responsive and quick. That was one functional issue that really impacted the user comfort.

I'm going to keep using the add-on, though, because the grey has poor contrast with the green and especially the normal text. The default color on the add-on is a light orange that contrasts nicely with the green so I didn't even change it. :)

Lascatx, a lot of the add-ons that are available for Firefox are also available for Chrome, IE and Safari, sometimes Opera. I just don't know a lot about them. Hopefully, you won't need it now. :)

In general, any kind of wish you have for your browser has probably been addressed by an add-ons programmer, some more successfully than others. For instance, tracking really slows down the loading of a lot of sites, and you can use Ghostery to choose which trackers you want (inc. social media buttons). If you want to change the appearance of anything there are themes and display customizers. If you say to yourself, "I really wish it did X", do a search on the keywords for X and the name of your browser, maybe also "add-on" and start reading. Sometimes you'll land right on it. Sometimes in a forum where people make recommendations. Just make sure to download from a trusted source, and if you don't like the add-on, remove it, so you don't have a bunch of junk slowing down the program.

I haven't manually cleared my cache or anything, but I have done forced reloads, and the vlink thing isn't optimized. They did the one minute fix, which was to change the vlink color. So far, so good.

What we want, in addition, is for the link to reset to unvisited every time a new reply is added.
