Will I hate my new kitchen?
Comments (27)I am so sorry to be so long in responding. The ISP cable went out, and will not be repaired until Saturday. chefkev - itÂs nice to hear from a chef! I just play one at home, LOL. It takes a little practice to be organized; forgetting butter or eggs a time or two is a good trainer. Maybe one good thing about our inefficiently laid out kitchen is that it makes me think through what I need before I start. Frankie  I would not know how to cook with two people in the kitchen. I think there is walking around room for the sink, cooktop and prep areas if ever the chance comes along to test it. Finding the right place for all the appliances and tasks is a big challenge. It is easy to get a couple of things right, but then I realize something else is in the wrong place to be convenient. eastcoastmom  An island is a great connector, an in-between or temporary landing place from the frig, sink, and stove. I am loosing an island in my new kitchen. I hope the work flows as well as I expect or IÂll be trying to retrofit another island. abbycat  you bring up a good point that working in a kitchen is different from imagining the work. You have a really nice, open kitchen. I love the windows! hostagrams  You are getting a puppy-thatÂs exciting! You are an old hand at raising a puppy. I think the carpet and hardwood floors are safe. I am sorry you lost Sam. I understand how much they stay with us even when they are gone. We foster goldens for a rescue and are willing to take the old and/or sick ones, weÂve lost four in the last five years. Three were with us for a year. It is mind boggling how ill-treated, sick dogs can be so trusting and loving. You are an Indiana gal, too! WeÂve been in Indiana 26 years-same town-same house. Your Sellers Hoosier is in beautiful condition. There are lots of options for an organizer and communications center with all the doors and drawers. momorichel  do post your drawings when you can. IÂd love to see them....See MoreHate my new countertops - need another opinion
Comments (70)Your counters are lovely. And I suspect in time, it will become less of an issue for you. We have two seams in our kitchen - one in the location like yours...it's flawless. Sadly, it's the one that doesn't show up as much when you look across the kitchen. Our fabricator said that they don't like to do the corner seams because there's more area for issues lining up and that it typically shows more. It's what I was used to with formica countertops, so it wouldn't have occurred to me that they would do it differently until I started hanging out here and seeing how most seams are put in. I wish that our 2nd seam would have been as perfect as our first seam, but it's not. In terms of being level and tight, it is quite good, but the match leaves a lot to be desired. They didn't do the computer line up option (I wish that they did - there was only one fabricator in our area that did and I was leery about using them due to other possible issues that some people mentioned). All in all, I'm not sure that I would pursue it further - sometimes we wind up works off than we started. Regardless, good luck....See MoreLove the layout, hate the stairs
Comments (24)cpartist you wouldn't be sharing with someone you don't know. Both rooms are booked together. But, we aren't discussing my business model here just feedback on the stairs and possibly removing 200sq.ft. My laundry room is currently that size and we really like it. You're thinking much too conventional build, the front doesn't have a porch the overhang along the "front" of the house will be 3ft. Yes, narrow but there isn't anything to see out the "front" of the house (which is actually more like the back) so there won't be any rocking chair front porch sittin' it will all take place on the "back" lanai....See MoreLove our new home, but hate the antique white cabinets/kitchen! Help!
Comments (50)We moved into our forever home last year. The kitchen and bath cabinets and layouts were the one of the things that didn't really work for us. the first thing we did was change the cabinet hardware and wall colors in the whole house. First step in making it better. We now like the kitchen layout and cabinets, they grew on us. The added expense of changing everything wasn't worth it to us. And we are okay with that. Just saying this to be another voice to live with it for awhile. Put the color you love on the wall instead of the cabinets and decorate with it. If you decide in a while you need to change the expensive things, you will have had time to figure out what works and what doesn't in its current layout. And already have the things to coordonate with it. I think the flooring and countertop would look nice with navy walls and copper accents. I would forget the sink. but it is your house. do what will make you happy. We still plan on changing the master bath/closet/laundry area of our home. But adding a garage comes before that. Priorities. Have fun making your new house your home....See MoreUser
