I use a regular, cheap Maybelline pencil (the red one) and fill in using small strokes. Drawing in an unbroken line just looks fake. I follow up with Covergirl clear mascara which makes my brows look thicker without adding excess color and also holds them neatly in place. The result is very natural looking.

Yes I don't like seeing a drawn on brow. The brush that has fibers in it makes the line disappear and the brow look more natural. Often though the fibers get clumpy and ends up looking really bad. My brow pencils never seem to be sharp enough to make small hair like strokes. I am going to look for the clear mascara and give that a try. Thanks for the tip.

I bought a product called RapidLash at Costco and use it on my brows and eyelashes because I was having some thinning of both. It seems to be working well, especially on my brows. It does not have the ingredient in Latisse that can affect the color of your eyes. It comes in a mascara-like tube with a small brush applicator.

You might want to google eyebrows and thyroid.

I am using the Benefit brow wax and shadow product, which I like a lot. Before using it, I never saw the point of the wax, but now I do. As well as being blonde and light, my brow hairs are very curly, so they never look model perfect. Oh well.

I use Diane Young eyebrow wax, lightly brushing and blending the two colors. It's not perfect but helps disguise/fill in thin areas.

I use brown Blinc mascara to cover the grey in my brows and it also helps to fill in some holes, but my brows are pretty bushy so I don't know how it would look on really sparse brows. Blinc also has a brow mousse that I just ordered, so I can't report on its effectiveness yet.

I use MAC Brun eyeshadow (Loreal has a single eyeshadow in Antique Brown that's a match and works well too.) Sometimes I'll also use Maybelline Define a Brow in Medium Brown in certain areas if needed. It's a very thin, creamy pencil. I don't like the look of just using pencil alone. I then always use regular hair gel. Clear mascara will work also. I just take the gel (travel size bottles are great) and put a dab on the back of my hand and use my finger to run a little bit of gel over my brows. I use my fingers to fix everything in place - most people would probably use a comb. It gives a neater overall appearance and looks natural (not crunchy).

Was just thinking the same thing about thyroid - losing the hair from the outer third of your eyebrows is 1 of the symptoms of hypothyroidism...

Right now I'm using Chanel sculpting eyebrow pencil & Anastasia DIPBROW
pomade in combination with one another....YouTube has good tutorials.

If thyroid issues are ruled out, I'd try an eyebrow growth serum such as Rapidlash.

I have hypothyroidism (Hashimotos) as well and lost the hair on the outside of my brows. Plus, I have blonde eyebrows so left alone, I look browless. So, every three weeks I have my brows waxed and tinted brown.

I feel like I have more control with a brow pencil. I don't "draw" my brows, but use little feather strokes.

I also us "Neubrow" which is an enhancing serum. It doesn't grow the hair, it just helps to maintain the hairs you already have for longer. I swear by the stuff.

I have my brows sugared and tinted usually every 4 weeks. I get my lashes tinted at the same time. Others here have said the have gotten eyebrow tattoos. I googled and the good ones look really natural. They are not completely permanent and I think they fade in 10 years.

I use Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper which is quick and easy. Also doubles as a root concealer if necessary.

debrak - I've never heard of sugared brows. Sounds fasinating!

whenever I think of eyebrows, I think of my father always telling us girls, "Never pluck your eyebrowers!" (remnant of Kentucky accent there); because he grew up when the fashion was completely plucked or very, very thin (think 30's Hollywood starlets) and once you've plucked that much, they never grow back.

I did Google hypothyroidism and brow loss but mine are very sparse all over. The thinning started on the inside edge not the outside. I will ask my doctor to do a thyroid screening though as some of the symptoms such as fatigue apply. The one symptom is feeling cold often but I have the opposite issue. I find myself constantly kicking the covers off as I get too hot at night.

Does anyone know a 'gray' eyebrow cure? Have a gray Clinique pencil but they don't make it any more! Thanks.

Lovemrmewey: Clinique Brow Shaper in "Charcoaled" has good reviews. If it's discontinued, there are several available for sale on EBay.

I use pencil and follow it up with a stiff angled brush to get the pencil marks out...I have enough hair that it looks pretty good. I've also used powder with a very short stiff angled brush and that comes out pretty good too.

I have lost a lot of hair on the outside of my brows. I've been dealing with thyroid disease for over 35 years now. I was in the normal range, but still underactive for me...I've since boosted my meds and I'm doing better. That's the thing...you have to find the best levels for you.

Holly-Kay, throwing covers off may be due to the change, not thyroid issues. I still have hot flashes, probably always will. Low thyroid will do things like lower your pulse rate, lower your bp, constipation, low energy levels, unmanageable hair, weight gain, raise your cholesterol...

rubyclaire, I've had my brows and upper lip sugared for 20 years. I had waxing done once before then and thought it hurt.

Another Bobbi Brown brow shaper user here. I sometimes fill in with a grey eye shadow using an angled brow brush. The brown eye shadows turn my brows a little reddish. Holly-kay, my eyebrows have always been thin (like my hair, thin and fine) and have gotten a little more sparse as I've aged. They are also very light even though my hair color is brown & so are my eyes. Somehow I got the eyebrows of a blonde!

I use eyebrow tint, link below. It works wonders and last six weeks. You only leave it on for three minutes so it's a quick process. As it's wearing off I use a L'Oreal pencil. One clue to using the pencil is to lay the point on it's side so the no harsh brush strokes and use short tiny strokes.

I didn't know there were so many good brow products out there. My eyebrows are blonde and thinning with age, so when Maybelline came out with a brow mascara I jumped on it.

I love it! I fill in any sparse areas with an Avon brow pencil I get on eBay. I've had a case of shingles in and around one eyebrow, so I haven't been able to use either for a couple of weeks. Big difference.

I wanted to do a quick update on this. My eyebrow thinning has been mostly resolved. I started using a Mary Kay brow serum but what I found is that I was rubbing my eyes when they were tired and I think that was causing the thinning. Since I became aware of rubbing my brows when I rubbed my eyes and starting using the brow serum my brows look so much better.

Maddielee, I want to especially thank you for recommending the Elizabeth Arden brow powder. It fills in any leftover sparse areas and is so natural looking. It is a wonderful product and I am so glad you suggested it!!!

I don't know if it would work well if you truly have no hair in spots (my guess is that may not be the case), but I get my brows tinted at my salon. To me it's the most important beauty ritual!

Put the wax on the brush and swipe it over your eyebrows before putting powder on. Gives the powder something to stick to and helps the hairs stay in place and the powder on. Or, these days I just dab my brush into the wax first, then the powder and apply. There's a good video out there put on by the Benefit people if you look.

MTN. That was the case until I became aware of my habit of rubbing my eyes. My brows have almost totally revitalized since stopping the rubbing and using the brow serum. My brows are still quite dark and really don't need tinted, they just need just a bit of fill with color though I may not even need the brow powder soon. I do like it so much that I will probably still use it.
