We bought an LG CD fridge when we arrived in New Mexico last year. When it seemed to be running a little high in temperature, we called the LG customer service (an 800 number), and they sent out a local repairman without delay. He came a day after we called, checked it out and told us everything was fine. As it's a high efficiency fridge, it adjusts slowly to changes in set temperature but it gets there in the end. I'm sorry I can't recall the model number, but it was highly rated by AJ Madison, and it's been perfect in the 6 months we've owned it. I think list was a little over $2000. We also bought LG washer/dryer from local Home Depot. We have an 800 customer service number for these too, and were told they have local service support. As nothing has malfunctioned, we haven't had to call so I don't know how good the service is. So far, based on our experience, I would not hesitate to recommend either product. If the appliances are well made, perhaps you won't need a lot of service? Cheryl

I don't see anybody jumping in, so maybe I can help get a conversation started for you. GE had pretty significant reliability and parts problems with its fridges when it started contracting out (outsourcing), but it has brought much of its production back to the US a few years ago. CR's survey data shows that GE is now no less (and no more) reliable than most other brands of SxS models. In our area, GE also cut back on the number of dealers it works with and seems to be concentrating on the highest-volume retailers and big-box stores. Some friends bought one of the large new GE SxS models a month or so ago -- I think it is the one rated for 29 cut. ft. -- and say they are very pleased with its features and capacity. Something to else to bear in mind is that rated capacity is often overstated. Supposedly 25 to 28 cu. ft. SxS fridges sometimes turn out to have no more than 18 cu. ft. of actual capacity. Capacity is affected by the size of the through-the-door ice and water dispensers and some of the larger capacity models have two ice makers. If memory serves, CR rated the Whirlpool and Samsung SxS models as having more usable capacity than other brands with similar capacity claims. Samsung models have separate evaporators for the freezer and fridge compartments. Not the same as having completely separate compressors and cooling systems (ala Sub Zero) but still something of a marketing leg up because of the theoretical advantages. When I was fridge shopping, it seemed that the jury was still out on whether the separate evaporators made much practical difference. Doesn't the biggest Samsung SxS have an external display screen that connects to the internet or you smart phone or displays photos or something? Strikes me one more thing to fail. cascade to other circuitry and interfere with the primary functions. FWIW, some friend have had a Samsung 26 cu. ft. I don't have the same LG model as you are looking for but have an LG 3 door French version that we bought new in July 13. It was a replacement for a 20 year old side-by-side so I admit that I was captivated by the interior lighting and more efficient configuration. However, I would not buy an LG again for these reasons: - ice maker is always jammed; when this happened the first time a few months after purchase, a repair person came out and "fixed" it. The fix lasted for a few weeks and since then has not worked. Seems like this is a known problem. It makes ice but the ice gets stuck and frozen into the dispenser. To remove the clogged ice is a physical effort of pulling and digging and creates a huge mess of crushed ice everywhere. Note that I have diligently followed the tips from the repair person to keep it working, to no avail: avoiding the crushed ice mode and dispensing ice at least once a day. - in less than 3 years I have had to replace a side door compartment and two crisper drawers. These cheap plastic parts crack very easily under normal wear and tear. - the freezer consistently creates frost build up and freezer burn on the food. - getting a repair person from the LG website is a huge hassle. Their website is glitchy and not user friendly at all.

Even though I had read negative reviews about LG customer service, I went ahead and bought 5 steam ones.. The steam dryer worked for his warranted period very well until it stopped working. Called LG and scheduled repairman to see what problem was. $150 for service call. Took top off of Dryer and said the mother board was burned out and showed me burned wires. Said $850 to replace this part. So a beautiful looking dryer became junk and I replaced with a Samsung steam one. Similar problem with LG steam dishwasher:It cleaned dishes beautifully until it stopped working with standing water in tub. and no draining. Called LG and took out a Special Protection plan for $288. Repairman came and replaced the water pump and it worked fine during warranted 2 month period and then stopped with exactly the same problem Called LG who Said repair was only guaranteed for 2 months, I asked them if they really expected me to spend $600 on this standing water problem. Unhelpful--this is our policy etc Today bought a GE Adora steam dw and hope to do better with this that was on sale for $650 whereas I had paid $1300 for the LG. Do not KID YOURSELF and think these problems will not happen to you like I did. DO NOT BUY LG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
