Taj Mahal natural quartzite
Comments (3)I used taj with light cabs in my mudroom which I use as a sort of butlers pantry (for me, aka the butler...the baker , the candlestick maker). Looks fabulous. And a gal I worked with did honed taj in her all white kitchen...gorgeous, I promise. I would not introduce another counter. The taj is plenty subtle....See MoreCan’t Believe A Granite that looks like Quartzite Taj Mahal
Comments (14)Hi all. Thanks. I’m no expert but this slab certainly doesn’t look like a granite. But what do I know? When I googled ‘White Pearl Granite’ the result is the typical ‘speckled with grey/black spots white granite’ photos. I’m going to do a test to this slab if this is indeed a granite or mislabeled quartzite, or god forbid marble as it’s really white or non-beige version of Taj Mahal. @chispa If indeed this is a whiter version of Taj Mahal then It’s good because it’s a Quartzite. Because the beautiful beige Taj Mahal is a real hard quartzite. Like yours. Though it’s veiny it’s subtle not like a calacata marble or calacata quartz, which are the veins that I meant as too veiny for the look that I want. I have read the many threads about countertops by Karin the geologist. Trying to educate myself as countertops cost serious dollars. Like everyone else here, I want a countertop that I don’t have to baby. My old kitchen had dark gray granite that was indestructible....See MoreTiny holes on Taj Mahal & What else to watch out for before paying?
Comments (17)As with anything, you have to watch out for the quality of the material you are buying. Taj Mahal is very popular right now, so I can see some stone yards carrying lower quality TM that is being filled to cover up the lower quality of the stone. Buyer Beware. I can't see any filled areas in the TM on my fireplace. I have seen some stones with fillers, but did not see TM with any. I'll be seeing my 3 TM slabs for my kitchen soon when we template for the counters and I'll be sure to check them again and ask my fabricator what he has seen out there. I bought all my slabs at a well regarded Los Angeles stone yard that does a large volume and carries high quality materials. I visited around 12 stone yards in the LA area and now only go to 2 of them, which had the best quality and variety....See MoreQuartzite Taj Mahal: Hone or Leather?
Comments (17)Hi Evan Man, We haven't any issues with food getting lodged into the crevices of the leathered surface of our TM. The counter tops are quite smooth an shiny despite the leathering. We do have some larger fissures that are actually filled with resin to minimize the depth and prevent food from getting down into them without detracting from the natural beauty of the stone. If I can figure out how to post pictures I try to take a few.... We really like the leathered look and feel but I'm sure I would love the polished as well! Cheers Gusman...See MoreShelley Graham
