The Fake name site is just bizarre. It gives you a whole new life.

I know I went through several lives lol. And if you click on the location it gives you an actual map location.

I used to scroll through www.stumbleupon.com but I got a terrible nasty virus and I think it came from a site on there. That computer is still getting worked on; he's going to wipe it and reinstall Windows. Then build it all over again. Oh, joy. So I was glad to find these sites. There are times when I need mindless diversion and I was running short of sources!

I went to the fake name site but my McAfee gave a huge warning of "Whoa are you sure you want to go there" so I stopped before entering. I'm not sure what it was all about because I backed out and didn't take time to investigate any further.

ThisIsWhyI'mBroke gave me an idea for a Christmas gift. (No, it wasn't the $230,000.00 space pirate watch.) Thanks Jewel!

LOL, since I got the tablet, I had found a whole new world in all those apps! And now, you're giving me more?!?! I need to find time to sleep and eat too. And, I told you that I wouldn't be using the tablet at home. Boy, was I wrong. I'm still having loads of fun with it.

For the rest of you, a little explanation. I've been wanting a portable reading device instead of carrying heavy books around. I don't have an i-phone or similar product because I found it unnecessary for me. But a tablet made more sense with my needs.

Thus, an Android operating system, screen touch applications and apps are all new technology to me.

So then came Raven into the picture. Oh, how blessed I was. She recommended me this wonderful but mainly affordable (very affordable!) 10.1" tablet. It has been a great device. Not only I found so many books to read in English but also had found so many in my native language as well. I can also scan the books that I have with my computer, transfer them onto my tablet and read them. Oh! And I found an app to transfer files wirelessly too!

Of course it can do more as I'm slowly finding out. Ahh... what a wonderful world of technology.

PS: I figured it out what I did wrong with the app to read National Geographic magazines. It reads clearly in vertical view (tablet view) more than in horizontal view :).

Oh yeah I totally forgot about that some things you should flip the tablet and try because they utilize that format better. I knew you would be using it all the time! I also knew you would have no problem catching on to Android.
I have completely lost track of how many of those tablets I have helped friends and family members get and learn. It's so rewarding to see someone enjoy their new technology toy! My elderly neighbor called me yesterday again just to thank me again and tell me how much she uses it daily and loves it. I would be lost without all of mine. I am happy for you Ntt!

For those wanting free books to read on Kindle or a Kindle app be sure to subscribe to the pixel of ink email letter or visit the website. I have a ton of free books in my kindle library from there. Also good is bookbub.com and book gorilla.com

I'm going to guess that books like NY Times Bestsellers and other popular titles aren't going be available on any free sites.

No need to despair if that's what you like to read and your budget is limited for purchases. Check with your local library, most have subscriptions to e-book services like Overdrive that can provide access to all the top titles. These easily download to any i-pad or other tablet device.

Small town libraries may have limited collections from Overdrive. In some states residents are allowed to get cards for any in-state library. Collect a few from the biggest cities (as I have) and you'll have access to more top books than you'll ever want to read. When a book first comes out and is very popular, there can be a waiting list, but you sign up and then get an email when it's your turn.

Personally, I don't care much about NY Times or any other bestsellers. Unless, they fall into one of the category below.

I'm quite particular with what I read, lol, aren't we all? I don't care much about reading novels, dramas or biographies; unless, it's a short article. Instead, I like to read documentary about nature, scenery, history, cultures, etc., much like what's on National Geographic magazines. Hence, my reason for getting the tablet.

I also have quite a few hobbies going on now and enjoy reading instructions, techniques & tips about these hobbies. With the tablet, I also can view YouTube tutorial videos.

All that already are filling up my daily activities.

LOL, I even downloaded a few free games and have had very little time to play with them.

Nevertheless, I will check out all those eBook websites & the library. Thank you both.

You reminded me of another site I enjoy called instructables, they have tutorials on all sorts of things. And you can make your own too.
There's an app for that, Android and apple.

When I clicked on your "Instructables" link, RC, it first went to a site with a WOT warning. I closed it and clicked again, and a different page opened. The third time I saw that a redirect was involved.

Don't know if it's the link or this PC. Avast updates automatically and MAM and SAS were just updated this weekend. I'll run a scan tonight anyway.

I did search "instructables" separately and found the real site.

Follow-up Thursday AM: I did run both MAM and Avast scans. For the first time ever in my computing history, MAM did find an objectional item, a PUP from Softonic that was quarantined. Don't know if I had it prior or received it from the link.

Someone posted on this thread about Fuzzy Logic and I went to it and the views or political discussions seemed to be strictly tea party opinions, and using derogatory names for the president. I don't always agree with everything the president does, but I respect the office of POTUS, and I tend to hold liberal views, so I would not recommend Fuzzy Logic unless you are a staunch right-winger.

Snidely, how did you manage to get other e-library cards (other library systems) for Overdrive? I'm a member of a fair to good library but many ebooks I seek are not available. I'd be interested in getting more library "cards."

In case Snidely doesn't see this older thread, I can tell you these cards are often available just for the asking. For example, I obtained a card from the Free Library of Philadelphia (150 miles away) after contacting them. I forget what identification I had to provide.
