fantasy brown granite w/ Sunset cherry cabs : backsplash assistance
Comments (13)Watch out for trying to mix cool grays with warm oak. Small amounts work OK. A gray backsplash would have gone with my countertops - but would have been drab with my warm wood. Warm wood tones and cool grays do not bring out the best in each other which is why the gray is usually paired with white. Gray is a bit overused right now which means it risks being labeled "dated" in the next 10 years though it will always be an important neutral - like cream and beige. Go ahead and try it in wall color that can be easily changed but be careful of using too much in more permanent surfaces. The grays in your countertop read warm which is why it is working with your cabinets. Consider your wall color last as it is the least permanent surface and easy to change....See MoreHELP!!! Fantasy brown quartzite or alaska white granite?
Comments (40)Alyssa987 - I had Dallas White on my list for a short time because it was a lighter granite but it wasn't one that I loved and swooned over. The granite yards near me don't seem to carry a lot of white granites, so I haven't been able to see ones like White River or Colonial White in person. I read about staining issues with Kashmir White so I immediately took it off my list. It's tough because the different granite yards call the same granite different names....See Morefantasy brown marble
Comments (3)I have New St.Laurent black/gray marble on a perimeter counter (it was sold as marble, but I've been told it's more limestone). It was polished when I bought it--I honed it to a soft hand-polished finish. The sealer/impregnator I used adds a shine and darkens the color somewhat, but it still looks soft and satiny--not like the factory mirror-hard polish. If you have a honed finish, it will be easier to buff out etches. I have cararra on the island, same finish but no sealer. Many more etches, though, since we use the island for prep and eating. Is your stone marble or quartzite?...See MoreTips on "babying" my Fantasy Brown?
Comments (22)clt3 - Thank you! I will save this and ask my fabricator. Install is this week. We have a semi-personal relationship with the fabricator owner. He has invited us out to his house to look at his kitchen. We have been working with the company (the owner, his daughter, and 3 other great associates) to find the perfect FB. The have been very meticulous to find a stone that has no fissures and is the color range that I wanted. They have even sent back two batches that have come into their business that had flaws. I hope that I can trust them to give me a nice finish and recommendations on how to care for it. While reading about the More Anti Etch product, they mentioned travertine as being etch susceptible. We had travertine in our bathrooms in the previous home. Our builder suggested them and we went in not really knowing what they were. They held up great until about 3-4 years before we sold...so they were 10 years old before one day noticing an outline of a circle on my vanity. I think that my housekeeper must have put down a bottle of some type of household cleaner. I tried to remove it, polish it, etc. One day I took some sand paper to it and it partially disappeared with out really changing the surface around it. Moral of that story is to make sure to instruct proper care to anyone cleaning for you...and to your spouse!!! karin_mt - I knew that Fantasy Brown is both a marble. I know that it is considered to be a very hard marble as opposed to most. I did research and talked to my cousin about it. I know that being careful with the stone is important. I was just taken aback that a water glass could leave etching. I never considered water to be acidic. After having a good talk with my fabricator, I will be purchasing a couple of drying mats, and maybe some Turtle Wax. :) Kathy Rivera - Have you talked with your fabricator about the etching? Also, I am curious about what happened with your cabinets. Are they really gray, or just a white that had a gray tinge versus a bright white? I purposely order a shade darker than the brightest white for my kitchen. As a whole, they look white....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
