From a garage sale. I asked how much it was and the young man said 'It was my Mom's. How about $3?' I feel bad when something someone probably liked a lot is put out because the kids don't want it. I gave it a place of honor, I use it when I make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

My Mom bought this one for me around the time I got married. I keep cookie cutters in it. I decorated my kitchen in a chicken motif.

Renee-Fl gave me this one long ago. I see these on Ebay sometimes. The guy who she was dating's mother had a cookie jar collection and they gave me this one.

My Mom gave me this one for the girls. I don't know the history of it. I'll have to ask her.

Interesting. I've been married for 25 years. I think she got it several years later once I had kids. Maybe it was a gift or from a garage sale. I forgot to mention that the doughboy giggles when you lift the lid!

They are all cute, I own the same hen. I love it, we had one growing up so I bought one off of ebay for old time's sake.

This was my MIL'S. It was on her kitchen counter when my hubby and I married 47 years ago. My hubby can remember it when he was a young boy. He is 70. My SIL took it when my MIL died but gave it to us about a year ago. I love it.

One of my cookie jars is the one Jasdip sent to me for the Christmas swap-its' not a pic of it filled,which Jasdip requested,altho,over the holiday period I did manage to fill it 3-4x :)

I have a different one for every season or month--depending. Here is my January snow guy. Mine are smaller so as not to take up too much room--but large enough to keep candy/gum for us to find when we need a little treat. My S/P felt left out and had to get into the act!!

I do have cookie jars, but none of these have ever been near a cookie. All are atop curio cabnets in the same room.

This is my 'cookie jar' and I absolutely love it. It's an old Mr. Peanut glass jar that originally belonged to my great-grandmother and my parents gave it to me many years ago. It holds a ton of cookies and they always look so good in it. :)

Another of my gg's "cookie jar"s was a gorgeous large lidded lead crystal jar that I think said W&C Cough Drops 1888 on the lid. When I was probably in my late teens I told my mom that if she was ever going to give me anything she had, it was the one thing that I wanted. She broke it a few days later. :(

I don't use cookie jars for cookies but I have a snow cat cookie jar on my counter and for Christmas I usually bring out the Nutcracker cookie jar I have. I also have some vintage Pyrex cracker and cookie barrels that I sometimes bring down from the attic. I made some tree stump elf house cookie jars when I used to take ceramics and I gave them to relatives.

There is one cookie jar that has a special place in my heart. My Scottish Grandparents had a 3 bears cookie jar on their counter and it was always filled with Peak Frean cookies.

Those are all so pretty, I love the bird ones! I had the one in the link, I just sold it. I couldn't use it, just having it in the kitchen endangered it and it's been in the closet for years. I do love it though. I still have the pitcher and matching candy dish.

I was hoping someone would start this thread. Mine are diverse--the old rooster belonged to my grandmother, so it is very special.

The fishing creel was a flea market find. It's not old, but it was so cute it caught my attention. I asked the price and was told $8.00. When I offered $5.00, the lady hesitated, but from the depths of their trailer her husband yelled, "Sold!"

The re-used pickle jar is our everyday cooky jar, shown here with the remains of the Christmas pfeffernusse.

I had one years ago, made it myself and it looked like a ginger bread house. I think I sold it at a garage sale in my 20s. I quit using it because the cookies always got stale. Cute jars, though. I thought about posting my teapots on the other thread but couldn't find batteries to my camera and also not sure where my usb cable for it is.

More lovely cookie jars. Laurie, it is similar to that one but not that one. The one I remember has little pretty raised cookies on it and I think the bears were smaller, no colour on the lid. Love yours though.

I only have one cookie jar. My DH had a very nice habit of surprising me with something that he happened to see and knew that I would love to have. I made a lot of cookies! One day this was the surprise. It would probably have been around 1947-48.

I found this picture on eBay. It was said to be white, but looks like an unmatched set to me. It was priced at $199.00.

I have the jar and the S&P shakers and the creamer. Mine are the pale creamy color like the cat in this pic. On the bottom of the jar and the creamer it says PATENTED and below that, in cursive caps, is PUSS n BOOTS and below that in just caps is U.S.A

I think it is assumed to be Shawnee, but I'm not sure. What I have read about pottery items is confusing. In my case, my set is priceless.

That neighbor did the same thing for her neighbor on the other side whom had also lost a daughter that same year. Yes Peggy was a very special neighbor. She has moved away and I miss her.

Here is a cookie jar that I couldn't find when I posted the bird ones. That room was torn apart at the time while dh did the new framing around the 5 windows that were recently replaced.

I love everybody's cookie jars. Gazania, yours are especially wonderful and your story really touched me. You did have a very fine neighbor. I've never seen any jars like your birds before. Are they made by the same company?

Here are my two. I don't know where I got the snow lady. I think she was my gift in a white elephant exchange. I really like her and she is part of my winter decorations. The other glass jar I bought as a teenager in the 60's. It cost $5 and was made in Italy. It has survived my many moves and is my favorite.

Murraysmom. The three together in my first pic are by the same maker. Several years ago they were in a catalog at 24 bucks each. I really liked them, but balked at the price and didn't really have a place for them. A couple years later they appeared in an unrelated catalog at clearance for 11 bucks each. Couldn't pass them up as with the addition of a new room and a place for this old shadow box I now had a perfect place for them.

I'm in Cookie Jar heaven, seeing all these. suzieque, hang on to it, you might run across the other pieces some day.
I don't know how I could have over looked this. It was another of my DH's surprises. I'm putting it here since the other thread has dropped off. It is a McCOY "IVY" set from around the 1950s.

gazania You are pretty much right in them not seeing cookies. I do have a couple that have though. One year, I put cookies at Christmas time in the ones that look like houses. The cat cookie jar is exactly like the one Sue posted up above, and it was my mothers, and had cookies in it all the time while I was growing up. Most of the others have probably never seen cookies. I have several more scattered in other places, and on top of my kitchen cabinets.

I have several of the Shawnee cookie jars. I didn't start out to collect them, but when I found them at yard sales, I bought them. I think $10 is the most I paid for one of them....long time ago. I have Puss n Boots, and the salt and pepper shakers and the creamer. Actually, I have 3 of the creamers. I will take some pics and post them later. Bee, I was at an antique mall just a couple of days ago and I saw two strawberry cookie jars!! I wanted one so bad, but couldn't justify the asking price. I think it was $30. And they weren't as beautiful as yours!!

I have sort of a strawberry theme in my kitchen. Most of the strawberry things I have belonged to my sister who passed away. I like having her in the kitchen with me!!

You don't often see a lot of strawberry items, so I always look around when I'm somewhere like that.

The only cookie jar I have is large and is shaped like a house. I got it at an estate sale. I spied it but someone was quicker than me and said she wanted it and set it on the floor while she looked around. Someone accidentally kicked it and the bird on the jar top broke off. I waited for the first person to come back and she didn't want it with the bird off. I said I would take it and got it for $5. It was easy to glue the bird back on. I keep my measuring cups and spoons in it. I have had it for about 12 years and every time I look at it I am happy it came home with me.

Now I have the urge to go to some yard and estates sales for cookie jars and teapots! Love the pictures and the stories. I showed thus thread to DD(22) and she reminded me I did not post a picture of her cookie jar! It's temporarily in a box in the garage I swapped things on our shelves to make room for our Xmas village is still up. I will get to it.

Thanks Murraysmom! I've seen others over the years, but like you said, none as pretty as mine. Sadly tho years ago the lid got knocked off & leaves were broken. I glued them back, but it is readily visible. I still love it.

I Found my daughter's (22) cookie jar today when I switched my xmas village into boxes in the garage and swapped out what I stashed in there! She bought this for $8 at a flea market and loves it!

I also happened to look'up' in the laundry room and saw this one. Had to bring it down and dust it off for a picture. I used to have a set of dishes in this pattern when I got married 25 years ago. The pattern is Country Hen and I believe it was sold in JCPennys.

Lisa, I just have to ask . . .that's a cookie jar? In my younger days I always hoped for a blue and yellow kitchen. That would have been perfect for it. Does it have a maker's name on the bottom? I always like to know the maker.

It's a Cooks Club cookie jar. The top lifts off as the lid. After she bought it, she was curious and looked it up on Ebay and it was inexpensive. There aren't any on there right now, but sooner or later one will show up. She will be so happy its Best in Show!!

I don't need another one, but I'd make an exception for the little stove, too. I have a coffee canister (packed away, somewhere?), shaped like a hutch, with mini coffee pot and cup.

Have we had a canister thread?
