Carousel Horse Cookie Jar

My friend showed me her Carousel Horse Cookie Jar and asked if I would like use it on a table. Of course I said yes.
I was looking forward to doing a cheerful table.
This is what I came up with.

I got the little elephants at a TS for $1.00, as you can see the darker one needed some TLC. The balloons are from a variety store. I'm happy

I used a gift bag for the larger place mats I really like the colors. The green place mats, napkins and pink salad plates are from CTS.The cute napkin rings were on sale at Pier One. National Carousel Day is July 25. Maybe this table will make another appearance then. TFLookin

Your photos are not showing up for me, nana ... just red 'X's & then when I click on them, it says they cannot be found...are they big files or something? I can see 6 X's. :-( Jeanne S.

This is a quote from Penn State Extension that seems more apropos re. baking in jars. If breads or cakes are baked in canning jars, seal them after they are completely cooled so that a vacuum seal is not created. This will prevent the growth of Clostridium botulinum. Also, immediately refrigerate. Refrigeration temperatures will prevent the growth of other harmful bacteria that can grow at the water activity and pH typically found in these types of products. The shelf-life in the refrigerator is several weeks. Additionally, there is always the risk of having the jar break in the oven or upon removal from the oven. Also, the jars can be very hot so use oven mitts to prevent burns. Ã¢ÂÂ¨Ã¢ÂÂ¨from: Dr. Angie Fraser, Food Safety Specialist, North Carolina State University. Some of that is clearly stating the obvious, but I do know there have been a number of complaints about the quality of the finished product (i.e. insufficiently baked at the center and over-baked at the edges), especially if the jar is a quart, rather than a half-pint or pint. But it seems if someone wants to bake in jars and is willing to risk the possibility of reduced consistency/quality and perhaps breakage, that's up to them. I can guess that cupcakes or mini-yeast loaves (like little brioche) baked in half-pints would be cute. However, I wouldn't do it because I don't want to stress the glass, risking future breakage during canning, and because I have certain pans I know produce really reliable results for me. We lived in New Orleans for many years, and all those places you mentioned are familiar. Where did you live in NOLA & which high school? Jim, thanks for posting, as usual you have a treasure trove of pictures for us to enjoy. They are wonderful photos and it is such a touching story of their lives together. It is interesting to me that the room structure is relatively simple (basic box and rectangle shaped rooms). The crown moldings are stream lined and not over the top, The decor and interest (for me) comes from the art on the walls (love that the art is lighted, wonderful for mood setting), the beautiful layering of their collections, and the great wall colors used in the rooms to evoke cozyness and yet is still very sophisticated. I could totally live in those rooms.

Deeby, mules eat the same as horses but better a lower protein...like about 10% and less sugar....because too much sweet feed (molasses added to oats and corn, etc.) can make them hyper. I also have 3 donkeys and they eat about the same as the mule...lots of good quality hay and they are all on pasture as well. Mules are different than other equines. The old saying goes (something like)....you tell a horse, ask a donkey and negotiate with a mule. Mules are very smart and they can be easily ruined if badly handled. You really do need to form a bond with a mule....if they like you, they will do so much more for you. Mules are male or female, just like horses...except a boy mule is called a john and a female is called a molly. It is preferable to geld a john mule when they are very young (geld means castrate...neuter, if you prefer). They are a hybrid of a horse and a donkey and they are sterile. Only very, very rarely has one reproduced. Interestingly enough, there is a farm in Florida that raises Gypsy Vanner horses, which are a large breed, supposedly the ones that Gypsies used to pull their caravans. Often paints, sort of like a draft horse....anyway, they do embryo transplants from Gypsy Vanner mares into female mules. The mules carry the little Gypsy Vanners and raise them and are said to make superior mothers. The reason they do that is because Gypsy Vanners are very expensive and they can produce many more foals that way....by having the mare mules carry the babies. Male donkeys are called Jacks and females are Jennies. My donkeys are named Amos, Moses and Hobo. Cherry Fizz, I collect dice too....I have four big jars of dice and also those flat craft marbles....two big jars of those. I have all kinds of things in jars....cookie cutters, scoops, polished stones, little ornaments, weird odds and ends....little bones, teeth. I'm sort of a cross between a pet coon and a magpie.

Nana...glad I kept scrolling down to see your pics.
You certainly did create a cheerful table.
The Carousel Cookie Jar makes a perfect CP and really sets the stage for this fun table. I never would have thought to use gift bags for place mats...such a clever idea and they look great and pick up all the colors you used. Now with those $1 elephants and balloons ... I'd be waiting for the 'Greatest Show On Earth' to begin!!
Glad I got to see this...and Yes...it would be fun to see again in July!

Thanks Jane, I'm glad you kept scrolling too.
I contacted GW and they couldn't help, they suggested I re edit and post the pictures again that way. After losing them once I was afraid to try editing again.
My friend Janice has the neatest things and I'm so glad she let's me use them.
It's funny when I started this table I wasn't sure how it would look. then It seemed to tell me what to do..no I wasn't drinking LOL

Whether you were drinking or not (lol)...I can see you had fun .
Janice's Carousel Horse - was a great starting point to work around and the fact that you had those cute elephants (which not everyone has)..and the colorful
dishes and accessories created a real festive theme.

Oh now...isn't that carousel horse jar the cutest thing!!! Yup, the center of attention for this t'scape, nana! Those gift bag placemats are delightful!!! Great idea!

Nana, this is a bright, beautiful table. Love the carousel horse and everything you added to go with. The elephants are sweet. Vaseline dishes and those pink polka dot plates may me go awe!!!

What a wonderful table! So cheerful and bright. Tho must admit, I am seriously envious of that carousel horse cookie jar!! I have a life-size C. horse in my livingroom, and a small collection of special figurines of them (all PJ's models of real carousel horses made long ago).
I'm so glad I got to see the photos!

That blasted 'new' Photobucket just really stinks. I totally HATE what they've done to the site!!!!!!
And I've read Pinterest is going to get 'improved'. Its fine now, I love it. I can't see why these people have to change things, and especially if no one wants it.
