This has been another busy week. I was able to catch up with the mystery quilt before the big reveal on Thursday. I haven't had time to work on it yet. I was planning to sew tonight but we had surprise visitors from back home. DH's sister and family dropped in about 7:00 pm. They are in town to visit the Columbus Zoo. This was their first visit to our new home.
We are expecting freezing rain Sat. morning and I plan to stay in and sew. I would like to assemble the mystery quilt top this weekend.

I will not get much sewing done this weekend. We are giving my mom a surprise 76th birthday party Sunday. She has never had an actual birthday party, so this is a big thing. The drive is 2.5 hours to get there and I will spend all day today making finger foods for the party.

Oh, Jackie, how nice! We threw my mom a 75th BD party (she's about to turn 89 - can't believe it was that long ago LOL). We had nearly the whole family together in one place. I think that's the only time that's ever happened! I hired a friend of mine to come take pictures so we could have family photos with everyone in them. Have fun!!!

We are going to dinner at friends' tonight, but I plan to cross stitch all day today and tomorrow. It's really coming along!

Wow, so many are improving their sewing spaces! Congrats to you Donna. Also to you, too Sharon, she's precious. Love the String top and glad to read so many are using or considering using their scraps. I love scrap quilts. I finished big-stitch quilting by hand the Shabby Chic top and I am adding some tying in the middle of the blocks. I've never done or even seen this combination done before but my fingers are trashed from the quilting. I am hoping to sign up for a class on the 30th to learn toothbrush rag rug making offered at the LQS. It's something different for a change and Lord knows I've got fabric. I've attempted a couple of rag rug making techniques but never this one. I will also try to set up the Long-Arm class I promised myself using the gift certificate I got for Christmas. The problem is picking the right day since I'm in and out every day morning and afternoon hauling Grandkids to and from school. I picked up my Janome after its check-up on the way home from the airport yesterday. I had used the two weeks we were gone for its tune-up. My second machine is in Hawaii, and I couldn't think of being machine-less for two weeks if I could help it. I've got blocks for three quilts cut and packaged to take to Hawaii this winter. I'd like to find at least one more pattern to work on there. When I was in France, the friend we stayed with was so interested in my quilting photos and seemed to appreciate them so much. I'd like to make her a lap quilt as a Thank You. Maybe I'll spend some time this weekend searching for a pattern. I'd also like to make some changing pads for my nephew and his wife. They are the ones for whom I just made the modern, grey quilt. I have some grey fabric left over, so I thought I could made a coordinating pad or two for them. They have a one bedroom apartment, so I know that the baby will be changed on their bed.

I started my cowboy quilt yesterday. It's based on a "Quilt Across Texas" panel that an elderly friend gave me. She intended to make a quilt for her son, but has just about quit quilting due to eyesight and energy. I'd had it stuck back for several months, when SO told me he wanted a quilt. So, I pulled out the panel and said, "This is the quilt you want." And, of course he did. I rarely shop at the LQSs, because of the price. However, for this one, I went straight to a shop I knew had Texas themed fabrics. I had no luck (probably because I didn't know what I wanted to do). I went on to another shop that I assumed had Texas themed fabrics because of the huge inventory they carry (Pieced Together in Mesquite TX). The lady was wonderful and helped me put together a beautiful plan. A lady from Australia on QB designed it in EQ7 and sent me the measurements. I have not decided which path I will take today. Right now I am watching the birds at my “feeder tree,” a large white spruce tree in the front yard. I have several fat-quarters washed and dried that I want to press and the first “Baby Bud” pieces ready to sew. I want to go to Jo-Ann’s to get two more ArtBin containers, but that is about a 90-mile round trip. I try to limit my runs “to town” to twice a month or less so I may order them from Amazon. I was in town last Friday to have the Bernina lady adjust a spring in my walking foot. On the way home I hit black ice, spun all over the road, narrowly missed an on-coming car, went airborn, and landed at an acute angle down an embankment. It turned into a comedy of errors with other vehicles sliding off in the same area. No one was hurt; my muscles are bit stiff from the impact but are doing fine. I just don’t feel like getting back in the saddle today. We’re expecting a bad snow storm beginning tonight, so that’s pushing my plans even more toward “stay at home and sew”! I’m also doing de-cluttering, purging, and re-purposing in the sewing room. I could stay busy in there for weeks! :)

I spent some time yesterday finishing flannel pajama bottoms for the kids, and I had a trip to Joanns...DH has commissioned a quilt for a retiring Col. Couldn't find a burgundy fabric that I liked so can't get started until I hit a quilt shop. (darn)

Today I get the tree outside and try to finish tidying the house. And have a graduation party to go to tonight for my nephew.

I hope to do something else in the sewing room today... I SO want to start a new project!

Tomorrow we have the day at a friends' house.

Donna, one of these days I need to start a cross-stitch stocking for my youngest. It'd be nice to have it finished before she turns another year older!

Probably no quilting for me this weekend. We have a family wedding late this afternoon about an hour from our home, so we have to leave about 2:00. Then I need to finish packing for Hawaii tomorrow, and we are entertaining some friends for dinner tomorrow evening. Monday will be hectic - last minute packing and preparing the house for a three month absence. We leave early Tuesday morning. I've never been gone from home this long, and it's kind of freaking me out. I'm sure the Hawaii sunshine and warmth will melt away the stress once we get there though. Have a good weekend, everyone.

I am cleaning my sewing room too, Bev. I bought two rolling carts at Ikea and am shifting things around a bit after having to absorb another household of sewing stuff after the death of my MIL.

Speaking of parties, I am hosting a party at the end of the month for my 95 year old mother. She is active and healthy but claims she will die when she turns 95 and we aren't to have a funeral. So, all the kids are flying in to give her a "wake" the day before her birthday, just in case. It will be a hoot and we're doing it in the form of a roast. She'll love it if we give her a front row seat and a glass of wine. I'm working on invitations, photos, etc. That's my ongoing project till Jan 31st.

Poor Lois, having to go to Hawaii for three months! LOL I wish I had to go, too. :)

Jenn, too bad you have to go to a quilt shop! hehehehe

2014 was an exceptionally wet year for central Louisiana and with all the rain we are getting in January... everything around here is flooded. I have not put out my rain gauge here at the new house yet, but I would guess we have gotten at least 4 + inches in the last 24 hours and this was after the ground was already saturated ........ am so ready for some dry weather! My sewing room closet is being renovated and I am hoping that by mid-January close to my b-day that I will have shelves installed in it and that it will be fully painted so there is no musty smell in it ... am eager to organize and put away my quilting, crocheting and hobby stuff. I am glad to have a bigger sewing room at our new home, but right now it and the the laundry room are a mass of boxes, most of it my stuff that will eventually get organized in my sewing room. I have some Granny blocks kitted up from last fall, so I may hand-piece some of them this week. In my sewing room my sewing/computer desk is against 2 large windows so I need to get mini-blinds put on them before I do sewing / quilting projects at my desk so sunlight does not fade my fabrics. I got my kitchen fully unpacked, washed and organized in cabinets with shelf liners. I need to organized and put away stuff in the living room. My son's toys are all in boxes in his room which I need to go through them piece by piece and sort and purge out old toys he has outgrown like monster trucks and dinosaurs. So right now he is enjoying all his Christmas toys to play with and Legos have taken over the kitchen table. Hope everyone is enjoying 2015 so far.

Sounds like lots of busy weekends! I helped mom cut a few squares for a charity quilt. I am going to work on hand quilting while I watch the football game this afternoon.

Lois, you will love it once you get there- it's the prep that makes you nuts! I didn't bring my sewing machine with me since the electricity in Mexico RV areas is sketchy, at best.

No sewing this weekend.
I dismantled the tree and put away all the other decorations as well. Time now for a good soak to ease the back.
And since I vacuumed also, tomorrow I can play with my fabrics. Whee!!

Well, if it keeps raining I will not have a house on a lake. I will have a house in a lake. Three days of rain and now it is gonna get cold. Down to 11, and not above freezing Thursday. But on the bright side, I got the computer desk in the sewing room cleaned out. Found some floppy discs. Wonder what the heck is on them, but no way to find out. Got quilt patterns sorted and back where they belong, I-spy cut and ready to mail, and machines back from service and in their homes.

I think we should go keep Lois company. She may get lonely in Hawaii. On the way we can stop by TGs mom's party. Sounds like great fun to me.

I didn't get any quilting done this past weekend due to a 4-day Downton Abbey marathon that started Jan. 1. I just can't help myself! LOL!

I did manage to get my sewing machine out of the shop and get some fabrics for my next round robin project. Also found the snowflake stencil at Hobby Lobby that I was hoping to find for the RR row quilt with a winter theme.

Decorations still need to be put away and a little cleaning done. Oh well....there is always next weekend.

Beverly, Maybe you can teach the boys to ice skate on the rink that will be in your yard. My nephew in Michigan just built one on his property since he and his son are hockey players. He even ended up putting up lights so all the kids can skate when it gets dark. Great idea to visit Lois and stop at the party. lol
