BEst Way to Ship A Meyer Lemon Tree? Best Time?
Comments (2)Hi bonechickchris, I agree with Mike's advice in the thread linked to below (last post). Now is a good time, if you can provide it a good home during the winter. It might be less risky in the spring though - removing the soil and shipping are stressful. It is easier to recover in the spring outside than in the winter inside. Here is a link that might be useful: Mike's advice...See MoreBest Time To Put House on Market in Austin, Texas?
Comments (27)Hi all, We are in the Covered Bridge subdivision which is pretty much built out now. There are a few of the same model as ours on the market, but we are going to price ourselves competitively. One is extremely overpriced IMO and the other ones are missing our media room and we can price under them with more square footage. Most of what the stager said was pretty specific to our house, but I'll try to think of a few things. He said to look for areas that feel "heavy" and lighten them. Like we have two dressers and an overstuffed chair along one wall of the bedroom and he suggested putting one dresser in the garage. He wanted half the books gone out of the bookcases. He suggested everything be in odd numbers. 3 mini paintings in a grouping, 5 books stacked sideways, etc. He definitely was into de-cluttering. There were a few areas that looked overly empty and he suggested greenery (which I took to mean plants, fake or real, not flowers) in those spots. He said it should be very clear what each room is. My art studio had a lot of stuff put away, and he wanted a painting set out on an easel so people could see how we used the room. Put away evidence of pets. White sheets are best, big fluffy pillows, and turn down the sheets at the corner like people are ready to climb into bed. He wanted us to add new mulch outdoors. I guess he did say a lot! We aren't using him right now. We would be using him to bring in some furniture when we move in a few weeks. It was really nice of him to give us bonus advice! Our house may be a bit of a challenge. It's not very neutral. I'm an artist and went with a glass tile ocean colors backsplash in the kitchen. I have colorful rooms - teal, lavender, even a bright pink bedroom. Everything goes together and all the listing agents we interviewed said to not paint or change any colors, so we are hoping to find like minded spirit who likes light, bright and colorful! Keeping the price competitive won't hurt....See MoreIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times ...
Comments (32)Re Astrokath's link to 30 great opening lines: I've read 21 of the books from beginning to end and started 6 or 7 others but never completed them (Metamorphosis, Moby-Dick, Middlemarch, Peter Pan -- pffft!, The Portrait of a Lady, Love in the Time of Cholera, and I'm not sure about A Confederacy of Dunces because I disliked it so much and found it so gross that I got fed up -- I don't remember the ending at any rate, if I read it). Middlemarch is the one that I tried hardest to read, but Ms. Eliot's style of 'telling' the reader what to think has always irked me. She told me too many times that Dorothea Brooke was a paragon of virtue and that convinced me that Dorothea was not a character I wanted to know!! I only liked a couple of the minor denizens of Middlemarch; the main characters were mostly insufferable to me. That's too bad because when other readers describe Middlemarch, it has always sounded as if it would be a story that I would really like. I've heard or seen in discussions the first lines of the books I haven't read or tried to read, but, frankly, I probably won't ever read them because they just don't appeal to me (The Crow Road and Murphy)....See MoreBest time to bring home new puppy?
Comments (17)Saltidawg, I am sorry you feel that way. I have a breed that was on the verge of extinction. I have flown over to Europe multiple times and brought pups back with me on the plane. Lovingly tucked into the seat beside me. How do you think most of the purebreeds got here to the USA to begin with? As there are only a handful that are native to the USA they have to get here somehow. I have buyers fly and drive to my home from states away in order to pick up their pups. A fabulous breed that was about to go by the wayside while people spend three times as much for a designer hybrid with no history , no health tests, no working or conformation tests. I consult with the president of the breed club in the native country on a regular basis to determine best breeding pairs, how to promote the best practices with regards to achieving genetic diversity. I participate in activities that my breed was bred for in order to make sure that my dogs are mentally and physically stimulated and are still up to performing the tasks they are intended for. I am also a breeder who will always take back any dog from my breeding. And am involved with breed rescue when needed. Personally I’m pretty thrilled that you and I have nothing to discuss. Unless your breed is a native to your country, you are relying on someone before you to have somehow gotten your breed into your hands. Or did they teleport? The ends justify the means?...See Morencrealestateguy
