Neon wall paint ideas?

So we've decided to paint our boys bedrooms for their birthdays--whatever colors their little hearts desire. My youngest (9) decided on neon green and neon yellow. The plan was the green on the bottom half and the yellow on the top half if the wall with a dark grey zigzag in the middle separating the two colors...until we went and assessed his room.

He has the attic bedroom, so four-foot walls, and then six-foot sloping ceilings with a popcorn finish. Now I am at a loss as to how to go about painting the wall the colors he wants without the white popcorn ceilings standing out like a sore thumb. I've considered painting the ceiling, or taking the popcorn finish off and then painting it, but I don't know what would look best. Any advice, ideas, or input is greatly appreciated!

Removing the popcorn always looks better, IMO.

Popcorn or no, I'd strike that zigzag midline evenly, consistently all the way around the room. Do the green on the bottom half. Do the yellow on upper walls AND ceiling to bring some cohesiveness to the architecture, dilute the choppiness of the different sized walls.

Keep in mind you'll be repainting eventually so you'll want to keep the edges of the zigzag and anywhere colors meet as flat and as non-globby as possible. Otherwise, you'll have one heck of a prep, sanding project on your hands next time you paint that room.

There was a Benjamin Moore color of the year a few years back called "Lemon Sorbet". It's a nice soft, gentle, pale yellow. Or if you wanted something leaning more cream there are a few soft yellow-ivories in their Historical Colors deck. Actually the Historical Color deck might have a good blue for your fireplace too, either Hale Navy or Van Deusen Blue. If you were attracted to yellow and blue go with it, but the versions you picked were too high chroma. Walls in just the kitchen or the whole house? IMO to keep things simple do the walls in the same white as the trim just in a different sheen and if you are thinking an actual color then you need to show what is in all the rooms not just the kitchen

@Luna A. it's hard to give advice in a vacuum--can you post a couple of photos of the room and the curtains? Although my instinct would be to paint all the walls the same color. The photos that MarleneM posted are so happy and bright, why not go all out? If your little boy likes green, perhaps go with that. I always tell the story of my daughter's selection of Lily Lavender for her bedroom when she was 9. My husband hated the color, but I said it's her room, she should have what she wants! Well she's 32, married, and expecting a baby now, and we just repainted the room last year. It was a small gesture to make a child happy.

I was thinking of sage greens. I got a bunch of samples. Most of them look great/brown I'm my kitchen. Also tried swiss coffee and White dove but I think too they are too stark.
