Looking for a recipe....

There is a place in Amish country where we have eaten this chocolate cake that is frosted with a translucent peanut butter icing that we love. The frosting looks like a carmel frosting, but the flavor is definitely peanut butter. We love the combination and would love to find a recipe for the frosting. Does anyone have anything that sounds similar?

Winter Cat: Thanks for searching, but I think when reading the ingredients and method, it is going to be a peanut butter frosting much like a powdered sugar frosting. The frosting I'm trying to duplicate is translucent and I'm sure is cooked and probably poured on the cake. I need to do some sleuthing in my cookbooks and find a cooked caramel frosting and play around with the peanut butter. I just thought someone might have a recipe.

This is one of my favorite foods to snack on. Long time ago in Szechuan, there would be these small street vendors who sold this type of turnip salad to kids. I used to buy it all the time. For a few pennies, I could buy a handful and munch on them. When I had no money, Id search high and low in my house for pennies. Too bad these vendors arent around anymore I guess you cant really make a living selling food for a few pennies these days. Now Im going to show you how to make this turnip salad. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. Ingredients: Salted turnip 400g (1pack) Sugar 4 6 teaspoons Light soy sauce 1 tablespoon (optional) Green onions 3 4 Chili oil 3 5 teaspoons Grinded peppercorn 1 2 teaspoons Sesame oil 4 6 teaspoons 1. Rinse the turnips under water first to wash of any salt. 2. Cut the turnips into 2inch long, thin strips. After you cut it, run it through cold water one more time, and drain it well. 3. Cut the green onion into 1 inch long, thin strips. 4. In a bowl, mix sugar, soy sauce, chili oil, grinded peppercorn, and sesame oil. 5. Mix the green onions with the turnip. 6. Pour on the sauce, and mix well with the turnips, and serve. Note: After youve mixed in the sauce with the turnips, I recommend you store this dish for several hours first before eating. Why? This is because allowing it to sit for a few hours lets the flavors really soak into the turnips. Also, you can refrigerate it. I like eating it colder. I like this one a lot. CUCUMBER SALAD 1 cucumber, halved, seeded and thinly sliced Â½ cup thinly sliced onions 1/8 cup rice vinegar 2 cloves minced garlic 1 tablespoon mirin 1 tablespoon soy sauce Â½ teaspoon wasabi Chopped fresh dill Salt and Pepper to taste Toss all ingredients together. Served chilled. I've never tried this one, but I found it a long time ago and thought that it looked good. Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.02 Title: CUCUMBER & FENNEL WITH ORANGE-MINT DRESSING Categories: Salads, Appetizers, Vegetables Yield: 6 servings -----------------------------------SALAD----------------------------------- 1 Cucumber, peeled, halved, -- seeded & diced 1 sm Fennel bulb, trimmed & -- finely slivered 1 Granny Smith apple, cored, -- quartered & sliced 2 ts Lemon juice 2 tb Walnuts, chopped & toasted --------------------------------VINAIGRETTE-------------------------------- 2 tb Orange juice 2 tb Walnut oil 1 tb Fresh mint 1 tb Cilantro, chopped 1/8 ts Paprika, sweet or hot Salt & pepper SALAD: Combine salad ingredients, except walnuts, in a serving bowl & gently mix. VINAIGRETTE: In a small bowl, whisk all ingredients until emulsified. Season with salt & pepper & pour over salad. Serve immediately or marinate, covered, in the fridge for 1 to 2 hours. I really had to laugh a bit since this post reminded me of a similar problem my cousin had with an abundance of zucchini. She made every recipe known to man, particularly zucchini bread and lovingly shared all of it with her wonderful neighbors, who eventually grew tired of it and warned her they never wanted to see another zucchini ever again!!! LOL! Hope you can cultivate a taste for fried okra. IMO, the secret is to use corn meal, not flour. Season with S&P or creole seasoning which adds a nice kick to it. Make sure the oil is hot so the okra won't absorb any grease. Fry quickly until golden and drain on paper towels. It's best to eat it immediately while crispy. I use a black iron skillet, which of course, is THE staple of every southern kitchen!!! I want to try Ginger's recipe...it sounds wonderful! Donna

I wonder how this one would work for you. It makes a pour consistency like the type you might use on a sheet cake...was the cake you enjoyed layer, or sheet type? I suppose if it was layer and you didn't want the glaze as thin, you could add more powdered sugar but only to the point it would still pour and level itself.

1 stick Butter

1/2 cup Peanut Butter

6 teaspoons Milk

1 pound Powdered Sugar

Bring butter, peanut butter, milk to a simmer in saucepan, stirring. Add one pound of sifted powdered sugar. Pour warm frosting over cooled cake.

SweetBetsy: Thanks, but none appear to be translucent.

Morz8: Yours might be it! It was a sheet cake and I'm sure had to be a cooked, poured-on icing-absolutely smooth and no knife marks. Will give it a try. Thanks!
