Comments (5)Do NOT buy from Futuro Futuro!! The sales staff are very friendly, but if you have ANY PROBLEMS, they will stiff you! We just bought a ~$2000 Streamline W unit and we recieved the transformer unit broken off and a crack through a corner trim joint in the stainless steel. When we called the company, they first said we would need to mail back the unit ... we were fine with that (even though the installers had already come out). But we got a call a few minutes later saying the turnaround time would be >3weeks, and would be unneccessary ... we were advised to install the unit and the company would arrange for a repair facility to come out and fix the issues after the installation .... Now I'm running the circles with company seeking recourse on the assurity I was given - and there was one particular support staff who was EXTREMELY rude and abrasive, even attempting to ridicule me on the phone! (Anthony from the sales side was very nice, and he was the one who assured me, but so far he has been extremely ineffective in being able to do anything!) So, buyer beware.... I wish we had gone with the more well-known and reputable brands for ventilation hoods. We just completed an entire kitchen remodel and the wolf appliance distributor here in Chicago was recommending a different company's product. I really had hoped Futuro Futuro would have met my expectations (especially being a relative newcomer in the ventilation hoods market here in the US), but I guess that's what I get for taking a chance on trying a new unknown company. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Well, please contact me with any questions if you want to know details of my experience, I am happy to share it....See MoreNeed help buying new appliances for kitchen
Comments (22)For a vacuum cleaner, get one of the Sears Kenmore "Progressive" vacuums. The most bang for the buck in a vacuum cleaner. I'll link one below, but there are several "Progressive" models. Note that online it's about $300, but if you go into a Sears store, and talk to a salesperson, they are willing to discount from that price, especially if you tell them you are ready to buy that day (i.e. not just browsing). Sears Kenmore Progressive Vacuum (but there are several others in the Progressive line) I don't know why you need a steam cleaner if you are on a budget, in your first home, and having to buy everything from scratch. I would put that item off to another day after you have equipped your home with the essentials, and you have saved more money. For your pots and pans, I do not recommend a set. You may be tempted cause you'll feel that you can get everything in one purchase. But a cookware set is not a good use of your money. The problem with sets is that they often do not contain the sizes you need, but do contain pots and pans that aren't that useful, and typically are smaller than what most cooks like. I would go to Ikea as already suggested and to JC Penney's for their "JC Penney Cooks line". The Penney's Cooks cookware has some items with Tri-ply construction which is what the expensive All-Clad construction is, so look for JC Penney's "Cooks Tri-ply" for a lot of bang for the buck. So look at Ikea and Penneys for a 4-qt. sauce pan, 10" fry pan, 12" fry pan, 6-7 qt. stockpot, and what's called a "baking pan" or "roaster" which will do double-duty for lasagna and casseroles as well as roasting chicken and meats, plus whatever miscellaneous cookware you think you need. That's a nice starter set. JC Penney's Cooks Line For knives, I also would not buy a set. Colorfast gave good advice to buy just 3, though I would add a 4th, which is a good boning knife (has many uses). I advise you to look at the Victorinox Forschner knives. They consistently win equipments tests against the really expensive Henckels, Wusthoff, etc. You can find them online at Amazon and many other websites. You will be amazed at the quality. Victorinox Boning Knife - 5-star reviews and what a price!...See MoreNeed kitchen advice - new appliances and counters
Comments (0)Hello! I have lurked here for a while and enjoy everyone’s projects and am amazed at the knowledge and helpfulness from everyone. Now we are planning to make changes to our kitchen and I need your advice. This started when we decided to get a new oven with a proof option because my husband often bakes bread. Then a new cooktop sounded like a good idea, and a new downdraft to go with it. So, of course, we have to get new counter tops for the cooktop to sit on! My husband does not want to paint or replace the cabinets. We are not doing this to sell the house. We’d like to make it the way we like it. We know what we like when we see it, but are not creative enough to imagine it. That’s why we are asking for advice. The current cabinets, Subzero refrigerator, sink, and faucet will stay. The dishwasher is a Miele which is working fine, but it would be nice to have a new quieter dishwasher and get all the ‘remodeling’ done at the same time. An oven with a French door or side opening door is appealing, but not required. We have seen the Wolf appliances and like them. We’ve also seen Thermador and liked those, but I don’t have model numbers. I am open to other brands and models, and want quality that won’t break. The appliances don’t all have to be the same brand. These are the models we are considering: Wolf SO30TE/S/TH oven Wolf CG304T/S cooktop Best Cattura down draft (1st choice) with exterior motor. Wolf DD30 down draft (2nd choice) I need a lot of advice on the counters. We like the Cambria marble collection. We don’t like a lot of movement or large pattern in the counter, but do like small veining. We don’t know whether light/white or dark/black would go better with the oak cabinets, but we are leaning toward the light/white counters. We’ve seen these: Cambria Swanbridge Silestone Eternal Statuario Silestone Iconic Black I would like a ‘window sill’ or ‘shelf’ made from the counter material across the bottom of all 4 of the windows behind the sink, like a wide window sill. But don’t know what is possible or how to describe what I want. The sink/faucet is pretty close to the window directly behind it. I am attaching current photos of the kitchen. Thank you for your advice! http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj539/mg999999/IMG_0996_zpssgslxeqi.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj539/mg999999/IMG_0988_zpsbxmvv25y.jpg?1525547129078&1525547129468...See MoreNeed Advice on Layout of New Kitchen, Including Location of Appliances
Comments (8)Thank you for comments so far! Cecelia - I appreciate your comments. I've been reading about the concept of the kitchen "work triangle". One of the concepts is that there shouldn't be more than about 10 feet between anchor points. The fridge and sink will be about 15' apart. Do you think that is an issue? Or is it okay given size of kitchen? NJ Mom - no; we are not wed to standard depth. We are looking at appliances later today and will look at counter depth. Thank you for suggestion. Wine fridge could be moved to other side. In fact, I was envisioning a small wet bar if at all possible at the end of the counter where the double ovens are. That would also allow for a small sink at the end of the wall for a quick wash of hands and/or 2d prep space. FJ - that is exactly what my wife wants! GN Builders - that was my thought in original post. Plus, you hit on the concept of the work triangle that I mention earlier in this post....See Morehvtech42
