Is there a way to turn the text ads off?

I get these green (or are they yellow?) hot linked texts that are sprinkled throughout the texts in these threads. Is there a way to turn them off? I have been ignoring them for a long time, but I've had it!

Yes. When one pops up, there will be a V in the upper right corner. Click on it. Look around on the page that comes up for "disable ads," or something like that. Then follow the instructions for disabling.

Well that didn't work. I disabled the "Vibrant in Text Ads" and I still get the darned things after refreshing the GW page.

I'll add one thing - Once you flatten the image, the text is now part of the picture. You'll need to pick your color, resize or move before you do the flatten step. If you are saving in a .tif format you can leave the layers intact, but this will add to the file size. I usually save two documents one a .psd file with my unflattened layers and one in whatever format I need at the moment. The .psd format allows me to go back and manipulate the layers as needed. moniqueb - love the font. That's very pretty, as is the flowers. :)

Adding 3 way light switch

Well I got all the wiring done and everything connected, but I must have done something wrong. Everytime I flip one of the 3 way switches it trips the breaker. I think I have wired something wrong in the original outlet. I had a total of 4 different sets of black/white/bare wires coming into that box (I originally said 3). Before I started messing with it, the switch was hooked up as follows: Black wire attached to lower switch screw which went directly up (to the lights or the kitchen outlets), another black wire was attached to the top switch screw (this black wire went from the switch to the pig tale of black screws) the white wires were all just pig taled together (I thought one should go to the switch?). And the grounds were all pig tailed with one going to the ground screw on the light. So the way I have it installed now is as follows: black wires pig tailed together with one wire going to the common screw, black wire from 14-3 wire on one traveler, red wire on other traveler, white wires are all pig tailed (none going to switch). At the new switch I have black wire connected to the common screw and the white and red wires attached to the travelers. I am sure this is very confusing to whomever is reading this. Sorry! Pop up ads cover the text!

I got a reply from GW people this morning to do the following to stop the ads. It involves the green underlined words we sometimes see, but it stopped the obnoxious ads. "I apologize for any inconvenience these ads as have caused you. We appreciate getting feedback from our members, and I have reported the pop-up issue to our community manager. In the meantime, you should be able to opt-out of the in-line (green underlined) texts by following these instructions: 1. When you're on a GardenWeb page, hover your cursor on the double-underlined word, but don't click it. You will see an advertisement open in a pop-up box. 2. In the upper-left corner of the box, click the 'V' logo. A new browser window will open the Vibrant in-text advertising page. 3. Scroll partially down this page, and click the 'Disable' tab. Click 'Click here to disable.' The page should update to now say 'Click here to enable.' 4. Close the Vibrant in-text advertising browser window, then once you refresh your main browser window the Vibrant in-text advertising should disappear."

Sherry, I haven't been here long enough to notice whether I'm seeing all the notifications from things I've commented on. Either that or I'm just forgetting what I commented on. You can go to your profile and check your own activity and see anything new. Sherry and Ali, I have noticed some very rude comments on here by a certain few. Many, sadly, are by "pros". I try to tell myself that I'm reading them with the wrong tone, but after reading many comments from the same people I'm not so sure that's the case. They seem to think my way or the highway. Think how boring the world would be if we all had to follow one set of "rules". We'd live in a world à la Stepford.

Thanks bbstx for the info, but it didn't work on my Mac. I have been using Safari browser. I searched and found a thread that was from August in the Kitchen forum and there was an app called weblock that was useful for some. It was $1.99. I'm off to bed tonight but will follow up tomorrow night.

I use adblocker, very successfully. don't know if that would work on Apple products.

It does. My office desktop is an iMac with Mozilla/Firefox. Adblock works quite well.

Ok, got adblock plus for Firefox and now my hot links are GONE :)
When I down loaded adblock for Safari, I still have hot links in the text.

I use Chrome on an iMac and MacBook and adblock works great. It tells me it nabbed 8 on this page.

There's also adblock for safari, or if you use glimmerblocker (glimmerblocker.org) they say you can set it to block ads on iOS on your same wifi connection as well, although I've never tried since the setup is fiddly

I have seen those, when I click on them, nothing comes up. I just ignore them.

Not to be too negative, but if there are no ads there will most likely be no GW. Can't figure out why someone gets upset at a free service trying to stay free with such a quiet harmless method as advertising. The costs are real and have to come out of someone's pocket. Without pointing any finger at anyone in particular, it's sad that so many people want everything for nothing.

Woah Grubby_me way to read a lot into a simple question. Enduring was asking about pop ups not disabling all ads. She also contributes a lot to this free forum unlike some people whose name I didn't recognize and thought was a spammer.

Thanks for your comment though. It was a great addition to this free website.
