Just ask yourself what you expect in the way of a new one being better. Will it have more options than you need or will use?

What size do you have now? Is it adequate for your use? There's probably no better information source than your own experience with your Kindle.

My old Kindle has seen a lot of use and I don't think I drop anything as often as this poor Kindle. The size is just what I want because I have tired of traveling with a lap top or a net book. While I have kept a lot of books that I already read on my Kindle, I seldom refer to them. I can send off the old ones to the Cloud, I think. I know I can re-access them if I choose. I want enough storage so that my regular use won't bog down the new Kindle. I am a fool about beautiful graphics and clear, bright screens. I am certain I will find reading on a new one more pleasant. This doesn't involve a lot of money and I believe the 7 inch Fire will satisfy my desire to read email and surf the net a little while on vacation. My life would be a lot easier if I would embrace a fabulous smart phone but I will never pay that much for something so small. I have travled with my son and have seen all he can do with his phone, including chatting with his girl friend while we were eating a lobster dinner. Also, I don't care to drive in unfamiliar areas while also searching for directions on a phone. I draw the line at a cell phone--I am almost 71!

By size I meant memory size - 8 or 16 or 32 GB, etc. That was your question, I thought.

I have an e-ink Kindle anda fire HD and love them both. My HD has the special offers and they are only on the screen saver so don't interfere with anything. I have gotten some good deals from those offers. If you find the offers bother you what you can do is go into your amazon account and pay the difference to have them removed. If you just want a device for reading e-ink is a better choice since it works in sun light compared to back lit screens that don't. Mary

I really do want a newer model and would like a more adaptable screen. I have never been bothered by the "special offers" because I don't like the artsy sketches that the screen saver offers. I am going to buy one--already have $348 set aside--and I can afford to buy one. I just don't want to pay for more than I will use.

Sounds like the fire will be good for you even if you won't play games. Keep in mind it's back lit and won't work well in the sun. That is one reason I have a e-ink one and a fire. I keep most everything on the cloud and just download what I need when I need it so storage is not an issue. My phone has a memory card so I keep photos I want to show there. The amazon Kindle help community is great as I volunteer my time on that forum helping when I know something.

I use my fire to watch a lot of TV since we only have a cable box on the living room TV and just have expanded basic in the bedroom no box. With the time Warner app I can watch box channels on the fire I don't get on the TV up here and access on demand stuff. I just wish amazon would make a 10 inch model as i watch a lot of stuff on it so looking at other tablets now because of bigger size. Mary

I was certain I wanted the largest Fire but someone made the comment that reading on a small Kindle was what she was used to and felt comfortable doing. She said using an I Pad felt like reading a magazine. I will still be able to carry the small Kindle in my purse and I am used to that. I never read in the sun so that isn't going to be an issue. I wonder if I don't order until after Christmas if they might find a reason the reduce the price?

You never know what deals amazon will have. A few weeks ago certain models we're half off in a lightening deal and they sold out in minutes. Mary
