scanning to PC

Running W7. Printer is a Canon MG5520. Wireless connection. I can't make the printer scan to the computer. It prints fine. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I don't have a wireless printer but had the same problem with a wired one. Maybe me telling you what I did will give you a clue. I think there was a place to change the font in the preview screen, not sure and there was one in printer preferences with a right click on the printer. When I finish scanning a screen comes with options to import and tag. If you click on import the computer will come up and put the document where you want it. We have different printers, so you may have to look around a bit to find what you need.

A guess here. Did you install the Canon software?

If you didn't, the printer most likely would be printing due to Windows supplying a generic driver for printing when the printer was first recognized. You would need the Canon software for scanning.

You don't have to update the drivers if all is working well. However some of the other points PC Pitstop might point out can be useful. Just click on each item mentioned and read their comments. They will 'fix' it for a fee but they do tell you how to do the task yourself if you decide to.

Do you 'need' the Yahoo toolbar? You can set Yahoo as your search engine by choosing Tools, Manage Add Ons and then click on Search Providers. Choose Yahoo, Click on Toolbars and Extensions and disable Yahoo Toolbar (right click, disable). Restart IE. The problem with toolbars is that their behavior is unpredictable.

Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com (all the same!) goes down. A lot. It has nothing to do with your end's equipment. If one of their servers goes south, it drags. It shows up badly because it keeps EVERYTHING except your message headers and preferences on its servers. That includes your attachments, mail, mail aliases, and address book. You rely on their servers to be hot and spicy, and they ain't always so. If you complain (I have) they'll get back to you after things are fixed and report no problem found.

There are some virus programs that have a boot disk option, where the AV program can be on a bootable disk and run without booting into Windows, but that appears to be a separate (more expensive) option with AVG. If you google for "free antivirus boot cd" (without the quotes), you'll find a number of options. I think this might be close to what you want to do.

I've scanned from a Canon pixma MP495 to the computer. Wish I could help more but I was feeling my way, too.

The two things I can say is: my printer has a SCAN button and I may have just pushed that instead of black/color. AND I got the printer from a friend with no instructions and no disc, so I don't think that is what is stopping you.

Just did it again. Opened printer from desktop, selected scan on that screen. It scanned and sent to "my pictures" . HTH
