Don't use CCleaner :-)

From Internet Explorer's toolbar choose Tools, Internet Options and go to the Browsing History. Click Delete, then select or de-select Temorary Internet Files, Cookies and History. After this completes, you can place a check next to Delete Browsing History on exit and be done with it.

NOTE: Deleting Cookies will cause you to need to log into websites that require a login.

What you should know about temp files or cache: Each time that you visit a website, you accumulate new temp files, they are basically used for saving or caching images and websites so that they load faster with a slow connection. The problem with them is when you have too many, or if one becomes corrupt, you may not be able to effectively browse.

Feel free to reply back if you have specific concerns.

In CC you can easily configure which cookies you do not wish to remove.

If you do select "Delete Browsing History on Exit" the outcome will be just that. You will never be able to locate a previously visited site using your History.

Without knowing what your exact concern is I am just wondering if you might be over thinking something.

"What are these" Twain_32.dll Client's 16-bit Thunking Server. Phew! Let's jump straight away to layman terms ! First, TWAIN : TWAIN is originally derived from "Technology Without An Important Name". TWAIN, or as it is most commonly know, the TWAIN Driver, is a program that is packaged with all scanners and which allows the user to scan images or text directly from the scanner into the application that will be used to manipulate the image or text. Thus, most graphics programs, and many of the newer Microsoft Office programs, enable you to scan a document directly into the program. http://searchtasks.answersthatwork.com/tasklist.php?File=Twunk_16 And http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/twunk_16/ The reason it keeps coming back is it's loading from the windows registry at start up. Double check for Malware always when unsure: Try running a Malwarebytes scan. Let it remove everything it finds. So make sure you click remove selected after scan is finished. Also after you download the free version it's important to click the update tab and let Malwarebytes update before scanning with it. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Then run an ESET on line scan. Then: The below guide is basic information for using CCleaner. http://reclaimyourgame.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=71&Itemid=95 Then: Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files. Download TFC by OldTimer http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe to your desktop. Double-click TFC.exe to run it. Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator TFC will close all programs] when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin * Click theStart button to begin the cleaning process. * Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. * Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning.

Retrieval from Temp file
Q
Comments (11)
I think it's over becaue I think I did something while looking for it that rewrote it. I what Exgm said and found out that the "Default" file is the "Public" folder under "Users" and I did find the file that says it is a "Copy" of the one I was looking for, but when I opened it it is the empty database so I think I must have tried opening it again and it reverted back to its original form or something. I dunno, I didn't open it righ away but might have done so under the tuteledge of the techie at work, since we couldn't find it. Anyway, the file path was C:\Users\Public\Documents if anyone else has this problem. Not sure why that didn't show up in a search though. I searched for ANY file on the C drive that had been altered today before I did anything else. I also tried to look in Google docs but I don't really get how to search that. I don't think I used that, I think I would have realized that. But I did try what Exgm said, and if I open a sample downloaded .xls file without saving it and then opening it, it DOES just go about saving it into this default file. Don't know WHY that folder does not show up on a search though. If it had showed up with the search I would have seen it since I searched for ANY xls file. At this point I've spent almost as much time on this as I did creating the file so I have to give up. I think it is hopeless anyway Somehow I must have rewritten the file thanks to the "help" from our techie. Or else it was just long gone anyway, since it seems like a search would have turned it up. I'm very suspect of this whole search function now.

Here are the paths to your temp folders in XP, delete the contents of these folders, not the folders themselves: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temp C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temp C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files For each user listed: C:\Documents and Settings\(each user)\Local Settings\Temp C:\Documents and Settings\(each user)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files Windows Temp: C:\WINDOWS\Temp If you have problems deleting the contents of your Temporary Internet Files go to your Control Panel and click on Internet Options and under the Temporary Internet Files section press the Delete cookies and Delete files buttons.

Files won't verify for backup
Q

Thanks, ravencajun. I have seen you mention DriveImage XML before and looked at that. I had this silly idea that Windows Backup would know if there were any "hidden" settings and get those, too. I have used the drag & drop method in the past before wiping the disk and reinstalling Windows. I managed to get everything I needed, but I have a few old apps that don't seem to know about /Documents and Settings. I'm always afraid I'll miss something. Isn't it silly that Microsoft doesn't have an easily accessible backup utility? I had to go get this one off the installation disk, as it doesn't install automatically with XP Home.

Your suggestion was the first thing I tried.
The files that are returning (today) are related to Gardenweb ...dozens
And at least a hundred files that when opened are notepad
containing coding.

If it matters all files have the laptop administrators name next to them.

Where are you seeing these reappearing Temp Internet Files?

Let's try this for moment just to see what happens.

Is GW your homepage? If so, change the homepage to something else. If not, just close IE and continue.

Open CC. In the appearing interface under the Windows tab is an entry for IE. Have you changed any of the settings? By default the current version has the top six pre-checked. Run CC as you are normally comfortable in doing so.

Open IE, but DO NOT go to GW. Go any other place you wish. Close IE and go to wherever you are seeing the reappearing files. Results?

Throwing up something and seeing if it sticks to the wall.

You're chasing a problem that doesn't exist.

The various bits and pieces -- .html files, cookies, images, etc. -- of every web page you view are by design saved in the temporary file cache of your browser.

Every time you delete the files and open your browser again, files will appear there again. There's no way to stop it, other than perhaps by setting your browser cache size to 0/zero but that will have a large adverse impact on performance.

I for one agree totally as I posted earlier, "Without knowing what your exact concern is I am just wondering if you might be over thinking something."

I'm a little curious though. Specifically as to the comment, "After deleting my Temp Internet File they re appear AS SOON as i open my browser."

It's kind of like some information is missing.

If meaning filename.txt, those are saved login/cookies/forms that you've told the browser to save. Even when you tell the browser to clean temp files including cookies it will save the ones you told it to save. CCleaner should ignore those too.

Those files take up so little space that it's not worth worrying about.
