try spraying (spritzing) the vinegar on, then sprinkle the baking soda on. Use a sponge or a cloth to then wipe the mixture all over the sink. In this case, More is not better than Less.

I store baking soda for cleaning in a used, clean jar from spices. I large salt shaker would also work. I typically shake the baking soda on whatever surface I'm cleaning and then spritz with vinegar. I leave it until it's done bubbling up, wipe and rinse it all down.

This is the only thing that I use on my cook top. It works brilliantly.

I never knew the combination cleans. I do pour baking soda down a drain and then add vinegar and watch it fizz to clean out the soap scum. I use baking soda sometimes to clean white things, but had no clue that baking soda and vinegar will whiten. I may have to give this a whirl.

Vinegar neutralizes baking soda since vinegar(acetic acid) is an acid and baking soda(sodium bicarbonate) is a base. Sure it's fun to watch it fizz but it's not doing anything.

It's best to make a paste of baking soda and water, just add a little water until it's the consistency of toothpaste. Green scouring pad sponges work great for cleaning, they are gentle on surfaces.

You can also use 3% hydrogen peroxide, it's is an excellent disinfectant and whitener.

I use comet cleaner by making a paste of it and leaving it to dry, then wash it off. That would ruin a porcelain sink but not molded sinks.

Comet is really toxic it volatilizes chlorine and is a respiratory irritant. I have pet parrots with really sensitive respiratory systems and because of that comet doesn't work at all for me. It is also very toxic to aquatic life. It took my awhile to quit using it since I grew up using it. I sure did manage to remove the finish from the porcelain because i didn't know better. My sink is much whiter using baking soda and vinegar. I will try spraying vinegar with spray bottle and sprinkling baking soda. How do I use the hydrogen peroxide? Do I spray it with the baking soda?

I ruined my porcelain sink also. It doesn't bother the sink I have now. I can't find anything that removes stains as well.

Just sprinkle the baking soda in the sink then pour a little hydrogen peroxide on it just as you would water, let it sit for 15 minutes then scrub the sink.

You can also place a paper towel soaked with hydrogen peroxide on the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes.

moviegeek is spot on with vinegar neutralizing baking soda. Both are good cleaning agents on their own but together they are useless. It would be best to mix baking soda with water and make it into a paste then apply to stains. Let it sit for a while then rinse. You can then use vinegar if there is still some left over stains in there but I doubt it would make that much of a difference though.

I do as Greg suggested with my kitchen sink...clean with a paste of baking soda and water, and it is clean and shiny when done. I do use both baking soda and vinegar in my toilets, though. I put a half cup of baking soda in the toilet, add a bit of vinegar, scrub with a brush and then let sit for a few minutes before flushing. I had read at one time that the soda help scrub while the vinegar disinfects. If that is not the case, please let me know!

You might find this informative. There are people promoting vinegar as a good disinfecting cleaner. Some say it is, scientist say it is not. It is hard to know what is true and what is not.

I don't have children and this could be why I think this way, but I think this push to disinfect everything is media driven and not at all necessary. Wash your hands with soap and water and don't touch your face. Flu and cold viruses don't live that long on surfaces--up to six hours according to Dr. Don Goldman, an infectious disease specialist. I think we have immune systems for a reason. I wish we thought more along the lines of what can i do to strengthen my immune system? --rather than getting flu shots and disinfecting everything. Of course, I am healthy and functioning, so it is easy for me to say.

Chezron thanks for your positive reply. I don't think we need all of the disinfecting either. I read a lot and pay attention to health reports. I even googled health myths. There is so much we pass on to the younger generation that is not true. If you can wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water and disinfect them, you don't need all of the high powered cleaners they push on us for other cleaning. They just end up in our rivers and lakes and our drinking water and empties our purses. The latest thing I read was they do not recommend using Hydrogen Peroxide for cuts any more, it actually slows the healing.

I don't get the flu or pneumonia shots, they have aluminum in them. Our doctors nurse doesn't take any preventatives treatments.

Have you tried just using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? I have used it in my silgranite sink and also on my laundry tubs. I use them for lots of odd cleaning jobs.

Since i learned about vinegar neutralizing baking soda--(duh)--I switched to using hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle with baking soda sprinkled on with a big-holed shaker bottle. This works great! Super white!

I also think high dollar products such as Tide is ridiculous, it is all hype. I have stopped using tide, cascade and other high dollar products. Targets Up & Up laundry soap, fragrance free does as well as Tide ever did and the Purex Triple Action laundry detergent is wonderful. Every time I remove my whites from the dryer I am amazed at how white they are. I got rid of all my specialty cleaners and use the basics.
