How to Use Vinegar and Baking Soda

I have white porcelain sinks in the kitchen (note to self-Never have white sinks!). Anyway the best way I have found to clean them and take out stains is to use a combination of vinegar and baking soda. The problem is, I do not know how to do this efficiently. I end up using a gallon of vinegar and a pound of baking soda. Can anyone suggest a way to use these two products for cleaning? Do you pour the vinegar on first and then sprinkle baking soda? Or do you sprinkle in baking soda first and then pour on the vinegar. In the first method, I end up with much of the vinegar going down the sink, and in the second, the vinegar washes away the baking soda. Thanks.
