Should I spring for the Turbo Chef ovens??
Comments (7)elizpiz -- There's a video of the Turbochef in action, which might be helpful to you, taken at a National Kitchen and Bath Association product fair, at this address: http://www.atticmag.com/videoturbochefoven.html. I've seen it work and it's extremely impressive because it's different than any other oven I've encountered. I feel it's the direction ovens will be taking in the future because it's menu driven, not heat driven. I posted and explained this previously. I don't know about service/support and I have absolutely no connection with anyone who advertises or sells it. As a point of clarification, let's not confuse ovens which offer multi-heat combinations/convection/micro/steam/conventional) for faster/different cooking with European convection ovens which offer conventional and convection cooking only -- without either steam or microwaves just because they are wall oven, and not microwave oven, size. They are different. To answer your question though, if I was doing a reno right now, and I had a family ahead of me I would go for the Turbochef. Their delivery system for the convection air is very different than other ovens, which seems to be the big factor. Perhaps some of the appliance pros who know the oven will weigh in here and help you out. Antss? Weissman? Guadelupe?...See Morewhat happened to TurboChef? (x posted)
Comments (1)Kate, TurboChef was indeed purchased by Middleby. They also purchased Viking and are revamping the entire line. TurboChef will appear on a Viking branded speed oven....See MoreViking TurboChef Oven
Comments (14)My guess is they quoted the VDOF730 which is the French door model. I asked him explicitly that. My sales order has the correct model and description on it. The VDOF730 is actually over $7000. I can't find any Viking oven with a price of $6524. But like I said - I'm still expecting it to be wrong. Also, I don't believe any availability estimates. Every date that Viking themselves have given me has come and gone. I'll post back when they deliver or cancel or whatever ends up happening. It won't, and shouldn't be in the same price ballpark as other speed ovens, since it's in a completely different performance ballpark. I don't think that's true anymore. I've used the old TurboChef oven (I had a spot built specifically for it in my kitchen and it got discontinued before I placed the order), and I've used the new Jenn-Air speed oven. The TurboChef is still better, but the gap is far smaller than can justify more than double the price. Everybody else's ovens are improving, and the TurboChef is pretty much the same as it was when it came out years ago. Viking is going to sell almost none of these at $13k. - as you said, if it weren't for the price......See MoreReplacing my TurboChef, what with?
Comments (0)Hello, About 5 years ago, during a major Kitchen reno, I talked my wife into letting me install the residential TurboChef for our oven. It was a Co owned floor demo, that we bought. Needless to say, I have caught all manners of grief for all of the issues. The oven had about 6 service calls in the first few months, and then they replaced it. Then we have had several more calls on the "new" one, (later found it was a refurbished unit), and both upper & lower ovens have had boards, all of the fan motors have been replaced, and so on. The display for the lower oven hasn't worked, and the control knob for the upper has been very erratic (computer glitchy). But now- the microwave function has quite gain, and now that the extended warranty is out I'm scared to start spending money on it. Like others have found, there just aren't service techs with any experience on this. So- a long time ago when we were fixing Easter meal on the cooktop (because the oven was completely out), I looked and the 30" Wolf double ovens carried the same cabinet dimensions. So I've spent the last 2 days re-reading all of the threads I can find here, and I'm scared of the Wolf. So I've tried to see what other options are out there. Consumer Reports' top choice is a Samsung..:). Read about Bluestar, Bertazonni, Thermadoor, and so on. It looks like I'll have to give up the speedcook, but that may not be so bad, as frankly the TurboChefs built in recipes almost never worked anyway. I've used the top oven as a convection usually, as it pre-heated very quickly. Neither the wife and I are serious cooks, but do love to mess around in the kitchen. But it is more cooking, than baking. So please- share any advice on a very durable double oven that hopefully has at least one oven that can preheat quickly enough to not discourage use. The T/C is 30"W, 24"deep, and 50 7/8" tall. I'd really like to not have to cut up fairly new cabinets. Is the Wolf M really fixed? Is the new BlueStar all-electric working well? The Bertazzoni saves me 3K$. So any advice, etc greatly appreciated. Is there something else to look at?...See Morekateskouros
