You would think with all the brugs there, Costa Rica would make it their national flower. I don't think they were wild, but the natural way they were planted all over hillsides and up and down driveways made them look wild. They also had tons of different colors, peach, white, yellow. It's against the law to take plants from one country to another & for good reason. Diseases can be transmitted to areas that have no built in resistance & invasives can be deceptively pretty. I had to laugh last year because my friend from NH came to visit last summer & thought kudzu was beautiful! She was putting roots in baggies to take home when I told her she might be sorry. My friends also gathered tons of seashells but couldn't get through customs with those either. My one poor brug I took in the house died over the winter. I have almost no sun. I am wondering if the tree size one might grow again as it was a warm winter. Now that I see how cool they look in groups I need MORE BRUGS! I'm trying to start some seeds, so I'll have something for the swap. I'm counting on a getting some there... Enjoy the warm spell everyone! Here's a little ode to I wrote: Spring Green tongues of hyacinth & daffodils lick at the sun. Birds begin inspecting holes in the oak. Spring does not come in one day, but one day it is surely spring. Yesterday one pretty bird on a branch fluttered her wings and chirped. A saucy song. Many mates gathered round. Spring! It is finally here. Spring!

Hi I didn't particularly try to spot reptiles on my visits but some that come to mind are the iguanas, they seem to be everywhere.Since they are so large they're easy to spot. Also the SW Crocodiles and Caymen at lower elevations.Ran accross a rather large Boa constrictor once which really startled me lol. Have never seen the Dart frogs. The most noticeable things in the forests are the monkeys and parrots.They make lots of noise.Another is the butterflies and forest crabs.They seem to be everywhere and are always out in the open. I suspect you'd need to specificly look for the dart frogs as they're so small. Another very noticeable creatures are the Hummingbirds.Any where thewre are flowers you'll see the little jewels. So beautiful!! On Monteverde I got to see a Quetzal.Unfortuneately out of color as well as a Sulphur breasted Toucan. A whole bunch of other specie that I couldn't identify. The secret is to sit down and be quiet.I guarantee within 2 minutes something will either run, slither,fly or hop by lol I always get involved in the plants.Particularly the orchids and ferns so I'm sure i miss at least half of the animals that can be seen. Thanks for the kind words! It really was how you describe it-fantastic. There was nothing bad there like you say. In fact, there were no bugs!!!!!!!! No misquitos!!! Even at the Cano Negro swanp of all places, there was not one single misquito!!! The temps varied from the mid 60's to the mid 80's, but the majority of the time it was in the mid to high 70's. Of course this is farenheight (sry my knowledge of celcius is terrible). It didn't rain once when I was there (they have a 2 month dry season-the rest of the time it is soaking wet). Of course, if you look hard, you can find the centipedes and spiders. I saw one centipede in the forest at Monteverde and it basically just sat there and did nothing. The only spider I saw was a small tarantula, but that was also in the forest and our tour guide had to fish it out of a deep hole for us to even catch a glimpse of it. The hotels (I stayed in 4) were not the "jungle shacks" I thought they would be. They were very clean, had air conditioning, locks, safes, purified water (although I still drank bottled water to be on the safe side), and maid service. I would imagine it is relatively easy to end up in a "jungle shack" by accident, as there were quote a few there, so you want to do research before you go. I used American Express travel service.
