Just moved to Dallas, TX

Hi all,

I just moved to an apartment in Dallas, TX from PA. Our apartment has a small NW facing balcony on the third floor where I'd like to have some herbs, vegetables and colorful plants mostly perennials in containers. I'm not crazy about annuals as their blooming time is so short, however I would like some color in the garden so would welcome ideas.

I couldn't transport any of my plants so now I'm starting over from scratch. I purchased a couple of plants (a fern, a dieffenbachia, pothos) from Lowes. I don't have any friends or family in the area to get cuttings from. Do you have any ideas on ways to get plant cuttings or seeds. Is it better to get the seeds online or to buy them from stores as well? I don't want to spend a lot of money for fear of moving again and being unable to transport my plants.

Also, when is a good time to start planting new plants as some of the freeze from last night seems to have my plants wilting.

Thanks so much for your help!
