Help my plumeria trunk/branches are rotting away

I brought my two plumerias cutting from our MN state fair this year in August. I did a lot of research before planting my two plumerias. I got the right soil and containers. Since it's winter here now, i had limited to watering my plumerias once a week or sometimes once per 2 weeks. Leaves were sprouting in October, but suddenly all my leaves are turning yellow and starting to fall off. From i know it's normal to leaves to fall off during winter season. But suddenly, today, i check one of my plumeria cutting, the branches were soft and are rotten. I am not sure if i over water? What i am doing wrong here? Should I get a plant light to put over my plumerias? Please Help! Any advices are welcome. I want to save my plumerias!

I kept my plumerias in my room since our living room is too cold.

If you have rotting on the ends of the branches you will need to cut the rot off. Cut just past the rot and seal the cut. I had good luck with liquid electrical tape. If the ends are rotting it will spread..

thank you for the advice. Unfortunately, i couldn't save my plumeria. i kept cutting all rotten stems/branches off until one piece is left, but when i looked at it, it's brown inside instead of milky white. I don't know if i can still grow this plumeria with these brown looking martial inside or it's already dead.

Where may i order another plumeria? It's sad b/c i was planting for my mom so i can give to her as a gift.

the upload picture is the same plumeria i am planting for my mom. Any help to get the same flower...

It is certainly worth a shot - it can survive with only a trunk, it will seal off & grow new branches or leaves if it can make it. People even root "center cuts" sometimes, as in no tips, just a slice mid branch, so it can be done. You have the trunk and roots and that's what's important. I think you have a better chance than with one trying to root. What is the season where you are? They try to go dormant in the winter so even indoors will have slower growth due to reduced daylight. Give it a shot, don't forget to sterilize shears between cuts! Go on, scoot! Make your first cut about an inch below where it feels soft. Inspect. Brown? Sterlize and re-cut. White and clean? Then you're good. Don't let the cut get wet and just let it seal or you can seal it with caulk.

I'm not sure what can be done, but if you don't get some help from here go to the palmtalk forum, sign up and post your question there. It looks like the stub is dying and nothing else. I'd still saw it off so the encapsulation process can start as soon as possible this spring. As it is, it's going to take a awhile and look bad the whole time. The broken branch should have been cut where the branch originated rather than leaving a stub. When pruning Japanese Maples, the branching pattern should be of the utmost consideration so you aren't left with a dying stub and congested branches. Mike

Nice sun burn..... Plants get same sun tan as human in S. Cal......lol. Are these pictures are one plant or three different plants? If branch is black and soft near close to ground, then you may have a root rot. But S. Cal dry weather how plants get root rot??? Too much watering?

There is a "list" of forum preferred sellers (and not so good sellers) in some other threads for online purchases. I typically have purchased in person (just being lucky by geography or airline miles).

I recommend waiting until the spring as you will have your best chances on establishing a plant. Plus the plant may be frozen during transit in the winter.
