The Philadelphia Flower Show is coming up :)
Anyone going?
Last year they had a massive amount of succulents. I also managed to purchase a few, they have quite a bit for sale and they are all really well taken care of.

My daughter lives in Philly and told me about it but I thought it was more "flowery" type plants; not that "flowery" is bad. I may have to reconsider.

"a massive amount of succulents"...I wasn't even remotely interested until you mentioned that.

Also, has anyone seen the succulents collection at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden? Are they worth the effort of driving into the city?

What am I saying. The only non-BBS succulents I have ever seen live in person are my own. I'll go.

We were at the Philly Flower Show last weekend and unfortunately there is no mention of hydroponics. This years show was an Art and Flowers theme and, in my opinion, has really broken from the traditional gardening I had come to expect from the show. It amazes me that there has never (to my knowledge) been a hydroponics display either from an exhibitor or a vendor. It seems like they want to ignore the fact that for the world to feed the masses hydroponics represents the future. Maybe it's the old thinking that all people who grow hydroponically are growing weed but I do not think hydroponics is getting the good press it deserves and it is time some organization steps up and starts changing some old assumptions.

Stoney Bank Nurseries / The perspective here is phenomenal: you are looking at least 100’ through the Full Moon opening in the garden wall, across a still pond to that Chinese red arched bridge at the end; that’s a matching red azalea you see beyond the bridge, with both of them reflected in the water. Those bursts of yellow and pink you see by the opening were sectional peonies, and there were dozens more along the sides. Irish Tourism Board / Ever since joining the Show in 2007 as the central exhibit of that year’s theme, Legends of Ireland, these folks have turned out one splendid display after another - a little lamb nibbling the grass would have been the only appropriate addition. . .

Burke Brother’s Nursery / This was my favorite - and this single photo can’t do it justice! - with a general theme of an old, cluttered barn and farmyard. These three “abandoned” car wrecks were being “taken over” by Mother Nature. . .the plantings were sheer genius, and the car lights were all lit! Throughout the rest of the farmyard, other “abandoned” car parts were interacting with plants, and there was even a henhouse (an old car, of course!) with a bunch of highly animated LIVE chickens. . .

Bryce Canyon is a beauty, all right, but would be a really odd one to capture -I'm wracking my brain trying to recall even a single plant from that park! Now, how about Acadia National Park, or the Everglades? Carl

Bikerdoc - Definitely worth going to for the succulents! It is relatively "flowery" but I can look past that, so maybe you can too.

fakechuchi - I have been to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. It was before I really started getting into succulents but I couldn't have even told you they had any there. It's a really nice botanical garden though...

The flower show starts this weekend so I wanted to bump this!

I ended up getting a membership because I am going with three other people (membership includes 4 tickets). With it, I can get in a few hours before general admission this Saturday :) !
