I don't keep track, especially since Bibliophil was not working right for a long time and I stopped registering books there, but at a guess, an average of one book per week and very likely more.

Thanks to BiblioPhil I have this information handy for the first time!....I read 108 Nonfiction and 47 Fiction; and I have 6 Incompletes (4 Nonfiction, 2 Fiction) that I've read more than halfway (I may finish a couple of them before the year is through). I started several others but ditched them too early to count.

I'm reading #53 right now. Since I went back to working full time I just don't have as much reading time as I used to.

Thanks to Bibliophil I can tell you I've read 85 so far this year (33 non-fiction) and I'm half way through two others which I will probably finish before Dec. 31st.

A new record for me - 62 so far and maybe one more before the end of the year. I am thrilled as I think that's lots of reading for a full-time mother of two young kids and two big dogs.----- of that number, 15 were non-fiction. The rest were fiction and sadly, only THREE were classics! I must work on readng more classics next year!~~~~~PAM

On behalf of all the other people on this forum who are either too disorganized or too lazy to make lists, I make this comment: I have absolutely no idea. I tried doing a mental tally but then I started getting confused because some I might have read in 2004. Oh well, at least every year I am consistent when it comes to this question....

What Janalyn said. I suspect it's between twenty-five and fifty. I tend to only read about an hour each day on the way home from the tube, and not at all at weekends (other things - like life! - get in the way...) Probably 95% fiction. I just don't find non-fiction as engaging, for some reason.

I just started #99 (A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin) last night. It was my goal to read 100 books in 2005, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it since A Game of Thrones is on the long side. Out of the 99 I did read, only 9 were non-fiction.Kelly

I tend not to keep track, but I'm sure I am no where near the totals some of you have put up. I can only sit back in amazement at those of you who keep track and who manage to read so much.

I have a book that I list all the books I read, but as Chris mentioned, I too have read nowhere near the amount others here have read.

I do keep track of the books I read and would be willing to bet that I have read fewer books (and acquired more) than anyone else here. I hope that changes next year when I should be less busy with real life. I'm really looking forward to sitting in my TBR room reading one book after another like so many of you do. I've always been envious.

What Janalyn said! I can only guess that it averages about a book and a half per week, sometimes more, sometimes less. Possibly about 50-60 per year. If they are super-long, such as Jared Diamond's "Collapse", I tend to skim, not read every single word. One huge exception, however, was "The Historian", which I loved.

Total: 123 and counting! Of that total: 39 nonfiction, 17 youth, and 5 graphic novels. A novel will, on average, take me 3 days to read. The first day slowly, the second a little faster, and the third compulsively. Nonfiction takes me twice as much time to read as fiction, and youth half the time. Graphic novels are very quick to read. I rarely go on all day reading binges any more. Most of my reading is done between 9pm and midnight.

Total 103 (easy thanks to Bibliophil). 23 were non-fiction. It is more non-fiction than I ever read before in a year, and I am starting to enjoy it more and more. I was much more of a fiction gal before.

Total: 111 - may yet get one or two more titles completed. 18 were non-fiction, and 16 were classics. .................................................................................................................. And I'm happy to add that I completed the A-Z author challenge that I had set myself (a book by an author I had not previously read for each letter of the alphabet). That was such a success that I'm planning to do it again in 2006.

I read 92 books last year, 23 were non-fiction and 43 were library books. (Yikes. Need to read more of my own stuff this year.) A mix of hard and easy books so I am content.

I had my second best year since I have been keeping records, with 69 books read. It was an interesting mix too, with two books that I rated only 6 (both of these were thrillers and I wanted to know whodunnit, otherwise I wouldn't bothered to have finished them. My previous lowest mark was 6½, and that only once) but also more rated at 8 than ever before.

56 for me, all fiction, of which only 3 were classics. However, many were book club recommendations, so varied reading overall.

2005 was the first year in which I set a reading goal. I did reach my goal of 100 books. Geesh! My paltry total of 25 looks pathetic to some of these numbers! And I was quite proud of my total, too. It is down a bit from 2004, as I read 30 that year. I have been keeping track of the books I've read since May of 2002. It's not hard and very satisfying! I read mostly fiction; only 2 of my 25 were nonfiction.

My final total for the year is 212. OF those 78 were re-reads, 45 were audios (some of which are included in the re-read total) and 24 are nonfiction. That's the most I've read in a number of years. The first year I started recording books read was 1997 when I posted 242 books. My totals went down when I discovered audiobooks, which take much more time to finish (not that I'm complaining, I really enjoy audios). I have 5 books waiting to start the new year with, hopefully I'll like some of them enough to finish them. I don't record a book unless I completely finish it.

I recorded a stack of books read in December today and counted my 2005 total which was 165. I think that is down for me, and I blame you people for causing me to read more complicated (educational?) books and Diana Gabaldon for her wordiness. I can read one a day of many of my beloved mysteries.

My, what busy bees most of you are...
I do keep a list of titles read each year, but am currently away from home for an extended period - I think it came to around 40ish, more non-fiction than novels. More than I read the year before, anyhow, and many good ones!

I sporadically kept track on and off throughout the year-I believe my total is approx. 150, give or take a few.

What Janalyn said, too. (especially the disorganized and lazy part) My 90 yr old grandmother keeps track of her books on a tiny notepad. She notes the title, plot, author, when she read it and whether or not she liked it. I bought her a lovely lined blank book and she refuses to use it, of course. At 90, for what do you suppose she is saving it?

I just completed Eventide by the author of Plainsong. I enjoyed it almost as much.

My total came to 53 new-to-me books this year, with 9 of them non-fiction. Thanks to RP, I began keeping a log 5 years ago, and settled on a simple table format in Word that includes a column for comments. I find that I enjoy looking back at my notes from previous years so much that I always try to include some brief comments.
