All good wishes to fellow RP'ers for a happy and healthy 2013 from a very damp and soggy England; the wettest year on record. May all your books be page-turners and your recommendations cause my local library to work overtime looking for them.

Thanks, Vee. Happy New Year to you, and a drier one at that. I've been taking down the Christmas decorations today--only half through--and it makes me wonder why I like to have so much on display. I do love it, though. The house always looks so boring after it's all put away.

Thank you for the lovely wishes Vee. In the US Midwest, we'd love a little of the UK's sogginess. We did get a nice snow today though, so perhaps we're starting to close the door on our drought of 2012. Still four hours until midnight here.

Katy, Logee's is certainly an adventure in itself. I've been going there for years. My first times were when Joy Martin was running it. Even squeezing through the aisles single file is worth it. So many exotic plants growing over, under and around! It's only about a 40 minute ride for me. I don't know of any other greenhouses that have that kind of variety. The botanical center at Roger Williams Park here in Providence is big and interesting. There's a $3 admission though. Lunch afterwards would not be a problem. Providence has tons of great restaurants. Maybe some others here would be interested in one of these or something else. Bill

Ours was utterly quiet, although not unpleasant :). Both kids were off doing their own NYE celebration so the house was nice and calm. We ate dinner, chatted, then he went to sleep early and I read for awhile. Boring? Maybe but also a moment to cherish being secure in our lives and with so much for which to be grateful. Happy New Year to you, too! To take more pictures. There really is something to having an annual video diary of the garden. The Juniperus scopulorum I planted as 6 inch seedlings in 09 are now 5 - 6 feet tall. I have an apricot I planted as a 2 ft whip 2 years ago that's now approaching 8 ft. These are wins I should celebrate more! Last night I downloaded a couple of maps of champion tree tours in nearby towns. I plan to visit them over time. I'm hoping that will help me learn to work smarter, not harder by choosing trees that will grow here. And yes, worry less! I think that's on my list every year. Barb

Happy New Year from a hot Western Australia! I don't take my decorations down until after 12th Night! Superstitious perhaps but it wouldn't feel right otherwise!Also some of my cards don't arrive until after Xmas. Last year, I got one in March! It went by sea instead of Airmail, which was paid for!

Happy New Year from Vancouver, Canada. Record breaking snowfalls on the local mountains but its GREEN here near the ocean. Which I dont particularly appreciate but the Anna Hummingbirds do..

Happy New Year. Cold and overcast this January 1st morning, a gray beginning to what shall surely be a bright new year. Snow is on the way, the decorations are down, the house is quiet. A day for tea and books.

Happy new year, everyone. I closed out 2012 in bed reading Kingsolver's Flight Behavior. Perfect way to celebrate the New Year, to me. When I got up this morning I ate some fish (tuna from a can) first thing for abundance in the new year. The weather is overcast and cool, about 40 degrees here in the Middle Atlantic states of the USA. As long as it is not snowing, I'm happy. I wish much happiness to you in the upcoming year.

Happy New Year! I spent yesterday afternoon culling my old books to make room for the new and I'm looking forward to another year of book-related everything here at RP. I wish you all a wonderful 2013!

Best wishes for a great new year to everyone here. It's a bit on the chilly side for this far south, but warm enough to get out for a walk or a bike ride. Our southern tradition is to eat "Hoppin John" on New Year's Day for good luck, as well as turnip greens ( the latter good cooked with bacon bits). We leave our Xmas decorations up until Epiphany, January 6, when the 3 wise men visited the Christ.

Happy New Years to everyone at RP! It is cold, but sunny here in the Niagara region of Ontario. We had a blast of snow a few days ago. Tracks in the snow tell me some deer were in my yard last night, and were so bold as to come right up to my front door.

I thought of Siobhan last night after seeing an item on CNN about New Years traditions in Eastport, Maine, former sardine capital of the U.S.

In my section of the world, the "good luck" traditional meal for New Year's is a pork roast cooked with sauerkraut... which is in the crock pot at the moment.
