Sorry, I can't help with the Latin. Your post just reminded me that I once read a book that ended with a long sentence in French, of which I knew not a word and, therefore didn't know how the book ended. Very frustrating.

Carolyn, I know that problem. It's especially prevalent in books written by authors of a certain class, before circa 1960. They are always dropping French and/or Latin phrases into the text or inserting quotations at the start of chapters.
Occasionally you come across classical Greek as well.

I have learned enough French to get the meaning of most of those, but the Latin still baffles me.

Interesting, Netla, that you mention authors of a certain class. This was very true and not only of book writers. My grandparents were put off going to a Noel Coward musical show in the 1930s because they heard there were French words used which they wouldn't have understood.
I read the script when I was studying drama in the 1950s and found there was only a small amount of French in the text but the rumour would have put off a lot of theatre goers. Such a pity!
They were keen theatre patrons and would have enjoyed it.

I copied your Latin exerpt, put it in the same site for a Latin to English translation and I got what I put in my first response above.

Netla the first eg translates as "Neverhtheless, if there is one man who is so ostentatiously upset that on no Latin page is one allowed to speak at his house, then he can content himself with the introductory note or rather with the full title"
I didn't work it out myself but copied the text into google and it brought up a work on Martial by a Canadian woman in Ottawa.
