How to search for an author. . or a book

I am looking for a search engine for books and/or authors.

Cuz i can't remember the name of the book, or the author. I know the story line, approx publishing date, the location the author lives, all kinds of things that are NOT helping me find the name of hte book!

Anyone know of a good site to search from? I tried wiki, but they don't have lists of texas authors, or books about texas (fiction).

I know, curiosity-driven folks that you are, that you're chompin' at the bit to try to guess, so here is what i know: (it's a rather obscure book, i'm sure it wasn't a bestseller)

fiction

Male author

1st book

lived in texas- either austin or the hill country (Burnet??) (i think he retired to the hill country from austin . .)

i believe the author is now deceased, this may have been his only book published- seems like he had been a park ranger, either in texas, or federal, and that is where much of the inspiration for the book came from.

Book is set in the hill country, between junction and mason. (texas)

heroines' names are Rene and Juanita, i cannot for the life of me remember the hero's name- clint, cliff, seems like it started w/ a c, but i may be way off. I'm pretty sure it was only one syllable.

Set in the 1970's

Storyline- Rene, a famous journalist, crashes her car on a itty bitty road in texas, and wakes up in the fellow's house. The nature/countryside and juanita's friendship, and him, save her, and get her life back on track. She brings him peace/acceptance of his past. It doesn't have either a sad or a happy ending, but kinda leaves ya hangin'. A sideline story talks of the way that he is healing his ranch- use of native grasses, etc.

published before 2005- i think it was sometime in the late 90's.

'Preciate any help y'all can send my way.

Thanks,

a longtime skulker, first time poster
