O.T. Has anyone heard from jan?

I found copies of our 2002 thread on Hartley's "The Go-Between." I really enjoyed Jan's contributions to our threads. I also realized that when I found that particular thread was just after I joined the RP community, which makes me a member for over a decade, now.

I haven't seen a post from Jan for quite a long time. I know she had some health problems.

OT Mary, do you know that there is a new Simon Serrailler book out? I've just ordered it from Amazon.

Dido and Vee, weren't you both in touch with Jan at one time?

I emailed Melinda (ilovefarac) privately in February, and she told me that she got her seeds from me just fine and was happy with them. :) Things were extremely busy and chaotic around my home for a while (Jan thru March) due to moving related activities, a job search, and other challenges... plus, there were also interruptions in my Net access during that time frame too. Health wise, I have been OK, just suddenly found I had way too much to do thanks to sudden changes in my personal life. I am having surgery in a couple days (Friday March 20th) and have high hopes that this surgery will permanently end most or all of my ongoing health troubles.

Karen, I love your idea. I would request that it be more along the lines of money than plants, please? I am fortunate to live in an area without Chilli Thrips, but they will eventually arrive. They are creeping northward. I have observed them now in many areas of the San Fernando, Simi and Santa Clarita Valleys and found them in public plantings of Iceberg along "The BLVD" in Lancaster this past Friday. Let's please limit plant movement from infected areas into uninfected ones.

Slightly O/T - Has anyone run a fountain off a car battery?

THANK YOU frankie, mad-gallica and sharon for your input. Once I looked up the Amazon link frankie provided I knew what combination of words to put into Walmart search and it did indeed come up with almost the same pump at a much cheaper price! (Chinese made of course but what isn't!) It looks just like the 110v electric version in one of my other fountains closer to the house. The 400mA is how much current it draws which appears to be very little. I also have used a low impedance battery fence charger as Sharon said that did 50 miles of multiple strand high tensile 12ga fence for my sheep and it lasted approximately 21 days between battery charges. I will try ordering 2 of these pumps and see how it goes. I'll report back but it will probably be later this summer as there's a lot of work to be done in that garden before the fountain. And I'll need one of those fake boulders to hide the battery box! Nothing like a big orange plastic lump in the center of flowers!

Has Anyone Heard from Long Ago Roses?

I heard from her about the ones that I asked for since early of 2021 (last year). But her Austins were sold out within the 1st minute thanks to some big orders of 50 or 20 roses. I was able to get non-Austins plus Wise Portia (I asked for Wise Portia early in 2021 when mine died through that winter). I gave a long list of substitutes knowing that Austins would be sold out fast. Also with Roses Unlimited summer sale for the past decade, I never could get any Austins except for loser like A Shopshire Lad. I got into the habit of giving a very long list of substitutes for Roses Unlimited summer sale since 2011, and did the same for LongAgoRoses.

Mary, I used to exchange the very occasional email with Jan regarding some research she was doing regarding a local man (from her area) who had gone to Canada. I'll see what I can do.

I probably have an address for her, although it would be from a few years ago. I was thinking of sending her a Christmas card with a bookmark as I have some extras.

Vee, unfortunately, I don't know how to cut and paste the copies I made of the thread to this site. I mailed copies of the entire thread to Liz. Perhaps she knows how to do this?

I received an email from Jan the other day saying sorry she hadn't saved the 'Go-Between' thread. She promised to look-in at RP and sends everyone her good wishes.
