Clairabelle, I had never heard of Ayn Rand before I came to the RP site so cannot comment on her work. Found the piece below about the proposed movie; not that it tells you much.
Where would I be without my ego? I polish it nightly and it sits on my bed-post next to my halo. :-)

Thanks for the info. Personally, I see Jodie Foster in that role...

It has been about thirty years time since I read this; my recollection is that as a story-teller, Rand was barely adequate; and as a philosophical discussion, was quite substandard. I doubt I will see the movie, as I recall thinking I had wasted my time reading the book.

This movie was made and shown in the past year in NY City to small preview audiences. And I believe it was only the first half ... the rest of the film has yet to be made -- because of lack of financing?. Which sounds comical for an Ayn Rand book!

It had lukewarm results. Even some A.Rand fans weren't giving it very good reviews.

Robert-e - above - expresses my sentiments about the book well. Even Rand, herself, admitted in print and on TV (interview on the Phil Donahue Show) that her's is not a fully worked-out philosophical system. Aristotle, she wasn't!

Angelina Jolie? In an Ayn Rand movie? Sounds like an example of extremely bad casting.

A long time ago they were thinking of casting Fay Dunaway in the "Dagny" role. But that was when Francis Ford Copella had the book rights. Don't know why he didn't make the film. Maybe clash of egos??
