Bookmarks Magazine

Greetings fellow bibliophiles,

At a recent library sale, well, it was in August, I found a copy of an old magazine called "Bookmarks". It was 25c so I splurged and bought it although it was two years old. When I sat down with it, I was thrilled. It was page after page of books. Short synopsis of new books, of recommended books, author interviews, new books coming out, classics not to be missed, a year in review with all of the prize-winning books, the short and long lists for the different prizes and so on and so on. The new books section was divided into sections - general fiction, literary, Sci-fi, mystery... it was awesome. So then I looked further.

The magazine is now celebrating its 5th year of production and I just subscribed for a year. It is published 6 times a year and is about $24 a year. I know some of us were lamenting the demise of other magazines that focused on books, so I wanted to share what I learned about Bookmarks. I received my first copy yesterday. I went through it with a highlighter and marked all of the books I want to read. It was AWESOME! This issue also had an article about books for kids who were ready to move beyond Harry Potter. My 10-year-old grabbed a highlighter of her own and proceeded to mark up that article. I am off to the library today with my magazine under my arm. My daughter and I plan on getting a whole stack of the books we marked yesterday.

I just wanted to share. For me, this magazine is a keeper. I'll stick a link to their website below.

Let me know what you think! I've never seen this magazine on stands before, not even in bookstores.

PAM
