What a beautiful rain we are getting here in Brandon! I was tired of watering planters and the lawn. So...now all the plants in the planters have perked up and the lawn looks green. I had taken all the planters out of the sunroom and onto the deck so they could get a drink. We had a little rain on Friday. Spit a little Sat am, sunny in the afternoon on Sat and then started to rain here about 4:30 in the afternoon Sat and hasn't stopped yet and that is almost 24 hours later. A steady rain/drizzle. We must have received about one and a half inches of rain already (measuring in a container in the yard). Once the rain stops then we need to do more fall work around here yet before the s***** starts. But at least all my flowerbeds are nicely soaked now and ready for the winter. I am enjoying being inside today 'cause I am now starting to update the computer data list that I have for all my perennials. I need to input all this year's purchases. My DD and her husband have invited themselves down for supper so guess I should go and start on that also. Brenda

This is the way it is.. In order for plumies to perform their best, fully leaf out, and flower, you need at least 14 or more hours of direct "intense" sunlight and hot temps.. In fact I frequent a nursery, and just last week, yes, with our weather and lack of sun, I saw all their plumies fully leafed out, but no flowers.. I will post a pic this weekend..So it can be possible, probably by luck though. They had just the right conditions. Very powerful hot lights on for over 14 hours a day, loads of humidity, and very warm conditions...Their temps in that greenhouse were over 85...It was like being in a HOT tropical enviroment. It is pretty much very difficult to imitate exact summer conditions which plumies desire and LOVE, unless you have the time, money and know how. This nursery spends thousands to duplicate outdoor summer conditions.... On the other hand, with what you plan to do, they may do well, just don't expect them to please you as much as described up post.. They will grow more than nothing at all though..I would think if they just continue to grow and stay alive, this alone will make you happy till nature does it's miracle again, for free..:-) Happy growing, Mike..:-)

Great envelopes in today's mail! Thank you Faye ( Notougly ) for a nice card and seeds of: Anise Hyssop, Cosmos "Bright LIghts", Hardy Hibiscus "Grenache" pink, Salvia Regaliana...love 'em all. You hit the spot Heidi!!! Beautiful blessings with 2 healthy, simple and yummy sounding recipes, many thanks. Heidi's recipes: ***************************************************** SUGAR FREE APPLE DESSERT 3 c peeled and sliced apples 1 ( 8-oz) can frozen Apple juice 1 tsp cinnamon 4-6 sugar-free graham crackers, crushed 1 T cornstarch 1 T butter Mix apples with cornstarch and cinnamon. Put in a glass baking dish. Pour apple juice over. Dot with butter. Put cracker crumbs on top. Bake at 350 deg for 1 hour or until apples are tender. ******************************************************* STRAWBERRY DESSERT 3 oz Strawberry Jell-o ( sugar-free) 3 oz instant vanilla pudding ( sugar-free) 4 c sliced strawberries large graham cracker crust Add jello @ pudding to 2 cups of boiling water. Mix well. Add strawberries. Put in graham cracker crust. Chill. ******************************************************* Actually fun coping recipes, haven't done it in a while, almost always make my own. Here is one that was printed in today's Times Picayune- New Orleans, simple recipe for NO SALT SEASONING. Glad Judy Walker printed it and added ---Great for gifting! Mike - I finally tried the minneola (posted about it in another thread) and here is what I wrote in the other thread - And it's funny you guys mentioning the minneola - well I had posted in another thread that I had been to an international store this past week and found some for sale (and bought 2). I finally tried one the day before yesterday and like a baby, I needed a big bib! LOL OMG, after I peeled it (it has the thicker rind that I guess comes from its pomelo heritage), I pulled off a slice, took a bite, and must have had a half a glass of juice all down the front of me. LOL It had no seeds and also had an interesting "floral" after-taste to it. But no doubt about it, it was juice juice juice. Bite squirt slurp bite squirt slurp. Thank goodness for paper towels (napkins wouldn't have been enough). LOL Nancy - those trees look great! Mine were supposed to ship Monday (the label was created Sunday and I got an email from FW that the trees would ship Monday) but they ended up shipping Tuesday. However since I did the 2-day priority mail option, they are due for delivery today (status is "Out for Deliver" and haven't come yet so they are rolling around in one of those little postal trucks...lol). I do live like 2 blocks from the post office but because of that, sometimes we get our mail last. Denise - wish your daughter good luck for the coming semester! Move-in time is always hectic but I think she will be excited once she gets settled in and you will be relived when it's over... but you know you will miss your baby! :-D You can put some good music on in the car and just roll with the flow! The time for the drive will go by faster.
