Books about growing flowers in Georgia?
Comments (7)I'm not crazy about the Reeves books either. I do think Georgia Gardening Guide is a good reference for plants that will do really well in the state, but don't like Month by Month at all. My problem with the books is I have not had good experiences following the instructions in them. I killed one plant by following directions to cut it back at a time of year that didn't make sense to me. Sure enough - two weeks after I followed the advice in Month by Month a healthy plant was dead. My biggest gripe - because it caused me so much work - was the instructions in the Gardening Guide for planting daphne. I followed the instructions religiously because daphnes are so picky about their soil. Turned out that not only did following the directions not create a mound of soil to set the daphne on, the directions created a sunken planting spot. Can't tell you how much extra soil and amendments I had to cart in to fix the problem. I am starting to believe that Walter Reeve's suggestions are really practical jokes. I do second Armitage's Garden Perennials as a good book for the south. Passalong Plants is inspiring. Makes me want to get the Southern Gardening book....See MoreLooking for young child's book about rocking horse or pony
Comments (5)And here is Grandma (me) with 4 week old baby brother, Kieran! It did my heart good to go cuddle grandbabies for the weekend. There were a few pains, knowing that I'm missing one (Maison) but I know we'll be reunited with him one day, and in the meantime, I'm going to have all the cuddle time I can with the grandbabies we still have with us....See MoreIllustrated Books on Eucs and Aussie trees
Comments (1)Depends on how much you are prepared to spend. Have a look at the CSIRO Publishing web page http://www.publish.csiro.au/nid/18/bcid/48.htm For Eucalyptus in the southern half of Australia it would be hard to go past the Euclid CD. For Acacia likewise the Wattle CD has a wealth of descriptive information about ALL the Australian spp. The 2 Acacia and 1 Eucalyptus volumes of Flora of Australia are comprehensive though the later is now somewhat outdated. Neither it nor the Euclid CD recognises Corymbia as a distinct genus - in the case of the CD because its principal author is strongly opposed to its recognition (in the face of majority botanical opinion in Australia), in the case of the Flora because it predates publication of Corymbia. For a more general book at a more reasonable price it's hard to beat the current edition of Australian Native Plants by Wrigley and Fagg....See MoreWhat's your favorite Children's Book?
Comments (70)Lots of Golden Books (some from garage sales) that all had that brown horse, with the black main and tail...and little white mark on his head. Do you remember those? My husband blames all these books : ) Loved the Betsy books, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, and of course....A Wrinkle In Time. The book is amazing! And I'm still trying to figure out what Charles Wallace's model of a tesseract looks like. But the description of the shortest distance between two points being a line (with apron strings held out far apart from each other) then bringing the two ends of the strings together to step across....best explanation ever of how a worm hole works!...See More- 8 years ago
