Hello, Friends! Thank you all for your thoughts.

I didn't have Internet service until this morning. The funny thing is you guys probably knew what was going on before I did. I was up Sunday morning and had just got on the computer when blap! all power was lost. There was a hellacious thunderstorm happening at the time, though, so I didn't think too much about the windowpanes rattling.

After about three hours, I got curious enough to call somebody to ask why the electricity was off, only to find that neither the landline nor my cell phone was working. I walked out on the lanai and could hear multiple sirens. It dawned on me, then, that something serious had happened.

It was afternoon before I got power and phone service back. My DH called me from where he was in Colorado, and he gave me the news of the earthquake off the Big Island. He also told me that our son, who lives in Hilo on the opposite side of the island from the quake, was fine, too. I learned later that DS was awakened when a shelf of books over the head of his bed rained on him and bruised his nose.

DH was actually irked that he had missed the action, and he's going to tease me for being oblivious. I did find a few books on the floor in the library, but I can't say for sure the earthquake or aftershocks put them there. More likely it was the cats, who I did notice were acting sort of crazy both before and during the event.

Again, I appreciate your concern. With knowing posters all over the globe, situations become a lot more personal now. That's a good thing but it does give you more to worry about, doesn't it? :-)

Frieda, I'm glad to know you're OK. It is nice the way everyone here looks out for each other, it makes the big, bad world a smaller and friendlier place.

Frieda, my parents live on Oahu and they missed much of the Big Island action, but still felt it. They said they heard a loud rumble which kept getting louder and louder, then the windows started shaking. Their cats weren't fans of the event either. They have a wild peacock (they call it Pretty Bird, I call it Messy) who hangs out at their house and went nuts! It was flying all over the place, something he doesn't usually do.
