Thinking of our San Diego and LA friends

I'm hearing such sad news out of San Diego and LA. I grew up in San Diego and still have many family and friends there. I also think we have some RPers from that area. The latest count is over 1/2 million people evacuated from their homes. Unbelievable.

Just wanted anyone from that area to know we're thinking about you and hope this nightmare ends soon.

Yes, it is deeply disturbing to all of us with friends and family in the area. We are thinking of you, near and far. Prayers from Boston for safety for all, including the firefighters.

Oh my, yes. I've been in contact with my family and friends in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas and know they are okay, for the moment. I'm hoping and praying that everyone in those places will be safe soon.

I had weather channel on all last night, couldn't sleep, so watched Ike hit. Such a horrible, scary thing tho. I know there is terrible damage and my heart goes out to anyone in Ike's path. Prayers for the folks to be safe at the top of my list tho. hugs, Karen

Great pics, Sharon! I'd love to know more about the wine vat. Do the grapes ferment in the vat? Doesn't it get hot in the island sun? How often do they make a "batch" of wine? Do you know if any residents make their wine this way? Thanks! Teresa

Hi Katherine, Your pool is gorgeous! I have no idea if you're still monitoring this, but I came across your post while searching for information about installing a fastlane in a niche for our pool installation. Our PB has never installed a fastlane before and they are unsure about how to cover it inside the niche. Do you have any information about how this was done with yours, and what the cost of the cover might have been? The niche and supports have been built in our pool, and the PB says they can have a stainless steel person create a cover for the niche, but they will charge us $1000 just for the cover. Seems a little high to us! Any information you can provide would be very helpful! We're REALLY far away though - in North Carolina! Hope you're still enjoying your beautiful pool.

I have been following the story closely all day. It sounds horrible. My wishes and hopes are for the safety of all, and also for a beneficial change to the weather so that the firefighters can begin to put the fires out.

We have been following these terrible events on TV over here in the UK. Our next door neighbour left England for San Diego a few years ago with barely a backward glance at his ladyfriend and two small children; can't help hoping he is OK.
